Hello everyone! I am beefing up a 2x6 wall with 2 layers of 5/8 sheetrock and acoustic caulking. The wall is 53 feet long and has some off sized spacing between studs. Most of the studs are 16" OC, but there are some studs that are only 1" to 2" apart...Strange, I know! So my question is how do I properly beef up these small areas? Our design is a "room within a room" but share this 2nd leaf with another business. Here is a previous thread of the space for reference...http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8939&highlight=rehearsal Thank you soooooo much for this forum...I'd be dead in the water with out you guys. cut in a piece off timber the same size and screw from either side. at least thats what i would do mate
Yeah, that's as good of a solution as any. Another option might be to make some strips of drywall, about 5" x 24", and put them in so that the paper side is against the first stud, etc., using screws through the studs to secure them. --Keith
Yep, those are both good ideas. The pallet of rock came today and we start the beefing tomorrow. Any caulking better than others? I will post some updated pics in a new post within the next couple of days. I am still knee deep in demolition YEAH!!! Thanks guys... BEN
Ok so we have cut all pieces to fit between studs. I got on the forum to double check the installation, but I am a little confused. Basically we have a 1/2 plywood (our beefing surface) that is shared with our neighbor between the wall. Our perimeter walls don't have any plywood just the backside of a layer of stucco. We are adding 2 layers of 5/8 gypsum and then using cleats. So what is the best way to attach these layers? Screws or Glue?... Not GG. Do we glue the first layer of gypsum to the 1/2 plywood and stucco and then screw the 2nd layer into that? Or do we use long screws and penetrate both layers into the plywood and use no glue. How many screws? What about the cleats? I feel lost!!! Jeeze, I sound feeble....LOL BEN
