Hi, here is a cut view of the new slab. The ground is sand (old river bed) so it wont moove during winter. I though about insulation underneat it so i have asked my old experienced father, he says not to put anything, just polythene barrier underneat. I have some concern at -30 deg. in winter it will be cold. I will have a heated floor though. Anyone have comments on this...
thanks !

Marc, Your dad is mistaken sir......... it is even more important with a heated slab that the entire underside of the slab be insiulated to stop the earth from becoming a huge heatsink stealing heat and energy away form the place you need it most. A minimum of 2" continuous T&G blue board is required - and in an ideal world this would also run down the inside of the foundation/grade beam) at least another couple of feet......... I hope this helped RodHi, here is a cut view of the new slab. The ground is sand (old river bed) so it wont moove during winter. Hi Sir, thanks for your info. I will add 2 inches of insulation underneath.
I received your book last week and almost half way through reading. I learn a lot as I realised I did many mistakes when building my basement studio few years back. Thank you, this was exactly I was looking for.
