We are putting RC-2 on the ceilings. Can we use drywall screws to attach the drywall to the RC-2 - or should we be using countersunk bolts & nuts? I'm a bit concerned of the weight of the drywall ceiling - I don't want it coming down on my head ;) Cheers, Dingo
In your case, use fine threaded drywall screws, the kind that are intended for steel studs and joists. Do not use coarse threaded screws. Coarse threaded screws are for wood studs/joists. There should be no need to use bolts as you have described. Although it seems to be disconcerting to have so much weight overhead held by the little screws, figure this: if you're using proper and legal screw scheduling (e.g., in my area I think it's a screw every 8 inches), a 4' x 8' x 5/8" panel (2.3 pounds per square foot) has 49 screws holding it up, which averages just 1.5 pounds (0.68 kilograms) per screw. Would you be worried about a single screw holding up 1.5 pounds? ;-) Didn't think so. :) Bottom line, be sure to use proper and legal screw scheduling on each layer of drywall, with the appropriate screws of the appropriate length (you didn't ask about the length -- that's very important!), you'll be fine. --Keith
