Problematic Room Mode Help

Bob,
No need to worry about treating specific frequencies in a room that size. The best solution is broadband absorption anyway. Why? Because modes account for only some of the peaks and nulls. But you can have peaks and nulls at any frequency. You name a frequency and I promise I'll be able to find a place in your room where there's a peak and another place where there's a null. Likewise for each location. You choose a spot and I'll find a frequency that peaks there and another that nulls.

Silent: Ethan's response assumes you already are without any treatment in the room. Could you confirm whether this is the case? Perhaps provide more details about your room/setup?
Ethan: Using "null" as a verb - priceless... As for naming a frequency, how about 20 Hz?
"how about 20 Hz?"
Sure, Jeff, no prob - just pretend those dimensions are in rods instead of feet  Steve
I had assumed they were meters, but I see your point... I guess it would suck if they were in furlongs.*
Hopefully, Silent Bob can help us with that clarification, too! :D
*c=2.07e6 furlongs/fortnight if that is actually the case.
LOL, but null can indeed be a verb. As when nulling the fundamental on an old-style distortion analyzer to obtain the minimal level. "Hey Joe, you better null that knob again because the distortion is starting to drift." :)Ethan: Using "null" as a verb - priceless
Yeah, sure, and 0.3 Hz too. Besides, this depends entirely on the size of the room. I'm sure I could find a null at 0.3 Hz in a gymnasium. Why am I not surprised to see you ignore the basic intent of my statement, preferring instead to pick it apart on a technicality. --EthanAs for naming a frequency, how about 20 Hz?
Ethan,
My post was only in jest.
But, if you like, I can point out that my dictionary only contains noun and adjective definitions for "null."
And your post was about Silent's room, or at least that's what I thought you meant when you said "your room" in your reply to Bob. I didn't realize you were using "your" in such a broad sense as to include gymnasiums. My apologies. I did understand the point completely. Of course, you should know by now that I find it difficult to resist drawing attention to your fondness for stating absolute truths in a field that has none. I hope you can appreciate that my attempt to do so in this instance was only meant to evoke some minor exchange of jovial informalities. I meant no ill will.
:)
Jeff,
LOL, okay. Of course, there are plenty of absolute truths about acoustics. But you're correct that acoustics is as much an art as a science, and some people simply prefer different things - a live sounding room versus one that's not so live etc. --Ethanyou should know by now that I find it difficult to resist drawing attention to your fondness for stating absolute truths in a field that has none.
