Hi, I have a (very) small studio in a room in my apartment and would like to soundproof, or get something that will enhace the quality of my recordings on a limited budget. If you have any ideas, please private message me or, better yet, send it to [removed]. I have carpeted floor, I am guessing drywall walls and the room is square. Is there a cheap way to build an effective vocal/ instrument booth or how do I do an invisible wall with a blanket and make it sound good? Ay input helps. Thanks! Chad Koenig
Hi chad, you have a LOT of research ahead of you on studio building. Check the stickies, and read them. Be aware that you will need to spend some time educating yourself about this stuff. First of all, you need to understand what you're up against. You need to understand the difference between "soundproofing", which is isolating sounds in the room (ie, keep music in the studio, and outside noise like airplanes or trucks outside the studio) so that you won't bother your neighbors, and your neighbors won't bother your recording, and "acoustic treatment" which is making the room sound good inside. In your situation, you are up against a tough wall in both respects. You are renting an apartment so you won't be able to do much in the way of construction to build a soundproof room. And, your room is square, which makes it doubly hard to get a good sounding room because the room modes are the same dimension in 2 planes and will therefore reinforce one another even more strongly. It can be done, but you have a lot of work ahead of you, starting with learning.....
