I am converting my cellar into a seperate live room and control room. (the cellar is conveniently seperated in the middle by a brick wall). Unfortunately my control room backs onto my next door neighbour's cellar via a stone wall through a vaulted area (see drawing) - I am happy to use as much space as it takes to isolate this wall and would really appreciate a few tips as to the best way of doing this. In regards to loudness, I am not looking to mix at a particularly high level, and am therefore happy to see what is practical, and taylor the levels based on this. (I will get a sound level meter to monitor levels as advised) The arches take up approxiamtely 1/3 of a 3000 X 3000 mm area. The other 2/3 rds is the control room (3000 x 2000 mm). The ceiling height of the control room is 2000 mm. The overall cellar dimension including the live room is 3000 x 6000 mm (excluding the arches) which I thought was pretty big until I saw pics of studios in Australia. As you can see in the drawing the arches are approximately 1200mm width - I was hoping to convert the last 600mm into seating in the areas to the outside of the pillars with shelving between the pillars but this is not essential. Thanks a lot for any help D Max

you should check with your neighbor and do a tap test to see how much sound is coming through - also a loud stereo or drum kit as well. between some tapping with a rubber and metal hammer (lightly :-)) and some loud audio, you'll get a sense of what is coming through. you may have more pathways into the next door space than just the wall...
Thanks Gullfo, I will probably try this, it's just that my neighbour may not be forthcoming in the area of helpfulness  , our history is not on the positive side - I will say that, apart from the area within the arches, the parition between my neighbour and the control room is approximately 1 metre thick, which consists of thick sone walls on either side with earth between. Above the arches is a footpath (above the control room ceiling height) which seperates our properties by approx. 1 metre. I'll add some photos if you think it will help Thanks a lot
Thanks Keith, sorry John
