Im working on a project to construct a mobile 'cinema' which is part of a nationwide roadshow, and it will be held in 7 venue's which are all shopping malls. I will try to get pics of the malls too. THE ROOM it will hold between 60 to 100 people, and im guessing the dimensions of the room should be 40'(W) x 40'(L) x 12'(H). it will be in the main concourse area of the shopping mall. THE PLAYBACK SYSTEM there will be 2x 42' Plasma's as the screen and a 5.1 monitoring system for audio playback. The monitors im thinking of is the M-Audio Studiophile BX8a 130watt studio reference monitors and a M-Audio BX10s Active sub http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/StudiophileBX8a-main.html http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/BX10s-main.html For the audio/video playback i will be using a laptop (outside the room) THE BUDGET the initial cost (of the room only) should be below USD 14,000, the equipment is not included. there is also an additional cost of re-setup, just in case anything gets spoiled. OTHER CONSIDERATIONS there will be game booths and other activities held around the area, there might be a PA system too but i can set a maximum level for them (i will also encourage them to just use 2x 15" full range speakers (without a sub). The same company will be handling the entire event. THE OBJECTIVE i need to keep the noise from the shopping mall out of the room (i think the low frequencies will be a big problem too) i also need it to be mobile, (i expect to have about 11 hours construction time per venue) What im 'guessing' (i have no experience in any form of studio design) so im guessing working with pre-fabricated panels (but i have no idea what to use) and maybe using adhesive acrylic caulking to fill the holes and i was also considering using acoustic paint, before applying fabric. i also read up on felt (the fabric) but it's pretty expensive. http://alsnetbiz.com/homeimprovement/faq10c.html http://www.hytechsales.com/prod150.html What do you guys think? any possible layout suggestions? and also materials to use for the walls and ceiling?
Aloha and welcome to the forum, Would an adaptation of these be viable? It would require some help moving, positioning and assembling them into a listening environment. Be sure to fasten them in a way that they would not collapse if bumped into. http://www.johnlsayers.com/HR/index1.htm Hope this helps, Aloha 8)
thanks for the info, i've already spoken to 3 contractors and none of them have the confidence of doing it... i think the biggest problem is the basic structure to support the walls and ceiling. The room is now fixed at 22' (W), 32'(L) and about 9-10'(H)... Im thinking of using mobile panels with weather stripping along the edges and they will be bolted into the structure...it should create some from of an air seal right? The Panels Each panel is about 4'(W) 8'(H) and about 6" deep. The walls of each panel will be 2 layers (glued) 5/8 Fire rated Drywall. Im using Roxul MPS 100kg/m3 rockwool slabs as insulation. it's 3" thick. The frame is made out of wood. What do you think of the idea of the mobile panels? The Ceiling no idea... :)..but i want to put rockwool insulation... The Floor im thinking of a elevated 6" platform..with no insulation...i hope this stops the vibrations from the mall... what do you guys think?
