Is it possible to make a slat with a gypsum board? thank you
Acoustically you can as well, But gypsum board is a crumbly material, hence you need a lot of work to make these edges nice (and such slats can much easier break). That people make them as they do is because it's the practical and logical way to do it. Acoustically: There are gypsum board producers making acoustic type boards with sawn holes or slots in them (mostly smaller sized openings), but they have the specialized equipment to do so. An example (German, haven't checked if there's a English one too): http://www.rigips.com/web/eng/prodsys/a ... tten_1.php http://www.rigips.com/web/eng/prodsys/a ... ebig_1.php If you see the latter one can notice how broadband a Helmholtz can be designed. Most likely increasing cavity will lower the spectrum more. Is combination of acoustic transparency, Helmholtz with high damped cavity, whatever.
