Hi everyone,
I'm from the chicagoland area.
I posted before and was given a great design back in march...
so I went about the business of finding out what else I needed ect.
but I negleted to include my HVAC as part of the design i submitted
the duct went down the middle of John's design and it hangs about 8" off my 9" joists
Ive have a very stange basement
I also had lot of problems trying to deal with the insulation of the furnace-water heater-water softner area soooo
I wanted to re-submitt my whole basement because last time I only submitted the larger half. I really need to keep the studio to one side of the basement
maybe the smaller side will give me less problems since i dont have so much duct work to deal with. I dont know. Could you guys show me which side will work better, thanks!!
this is a unfinished basement have about three thousand to spend. I am looking to build a control/tracking room. Maybe vocal booth.
Goals 1) to mix and track hip hop/rap and hip hop instrumentals (down tempo/electronica). I really want to master the subsonic area.
2) another goal is to isolate myself from the rest of the house the best I can afford. My wife home schools our daughter.
The basement is unfinished and is a completely open space with a set of stairs seperating two sides..
The ceiling height is about 7'8" from the joist, 9' from the inside of the joist, and the duct work is 6'11" from the floor.
The duct work is basically above the furnace and travels the length of the basement from one side to the other.
short side:
width is 13'4 length is 13' or 16'3 if you go to the stairs. In this room I have to deal with the sump pump the circuit box and a small window (all are marked) this side of the basement is directly under the kitchen so I get alot vibration from the dishwasher, ect.. nice
longer one side:
there is a furnace, water heater, and water softner that blocks quite a bit of space. (I marked those in my drawing) also there is a wierd slope on one side, and also a water pipe sticking out about two feet! (those are also marked). There is also a 4 foot window on one side of the wall for fires and emergencies. (this too is marked.)
I dont know how loud everthing gets, I monitor at different levels. However I monitor using B&W matrix 605 with a 4B bryston amp (250!), and Blue Sky-System One "2.1" monitors with the sub, so that I can hear the lows properly.
Since the whole basement is cement (and I dont get complaints from my neighbors now) I thought that I would use a regular insulation on the outside walls. The exception would be the ceilings and the new wall (a door would go here also), I want to the double wall (mass air mass) .
the ceiling I wanted to use ultra touch cotton or regular OC r-30 and then Double 5/8 drywall off of resilient channels (does this sound good enough for the ceiling?) if not let me know, please.
Right now my sitting area measures out at around 7'10 (width) by 10'5 (length), that includes my desk, monitors, sub-woofer(this thing is huge), my G4 in a iso rack and three other rack stacks, of outboard gear. It is three stacks because I dont want to stack them to high, this also has to be portable so I keep these in road ready cases because I share this gear with my partners. If length is to long I'll make adjustments...
This is all I could think of please let me know if I missed something.
thanks so much again for your help
Aaron
