Okay, so I'm totally clueless about ventilation, and even duct work in general. I bought an ERV, or this Fantech SH 704. How am I supposed to duct this? I'm using this in a 14x20' shed placed in the attic. Suppose two ducts go to outside for exhaust and fresh air, how do I place the other ones(fresh air and exhaust in room)? I've heard about 'silencers', but I'm not sure I fully understand them. Does anyone have any diagrams or pictures of how they setup their ventilation? I've searched the forum, but could only find diagrams of the duct placement, and I need some kind of idea of how the air GETS to the silencer.
Ventilation diagrams?

My thread and Dan Fitzpatrick's thread have covered this in some detail.
Do a search for "silencers" to see all of what's been written about them.
You're about three months too early. By then I hope mine are built and in place, with lots of pictures to share, of course. ;-)

Well, the ventilator arrived today. But to my surprise it isn't an ERV at all, they actually shipped an HRV instead. Does this really matter? I don't want to have to deal with restocking fees and such. It's relatively humid where I live, and I don't want humid air coming inside. Should I return it for the suggested ERV for where I live?
I would call Fantech and speak with them about it. They can make a recommendation.
I would think an HRV would be ok in your part of the country. I believe ERV's are better for climates with colder temperatures. I have relatives that live in South Carolina, and if your weather is any like their's you have humid summers and mild winters. As Keith said, best way to be sure would be to call Fantech.
Well, I contacted the place I bought it from and they said it will cost $150 to return it, which is bull because they didn't even ship the right one. They said that the receipt matched the item, therefore I can't exchange it. It looks like I'll be keeping the HRV. :?
Andy, do you have any emails, purchase orders or anything to prove you ordered an ERV instead of an HRV? If you can prove the mixup is on their part I can't imagine them charging you for a mistake they made. I have a saying for businesses..."you make a mistake, you compensate" (within reason that is...)
If by chance, you have NO proof, you may be stuck. One thing I always do though...if you can't get satisfaction by simply talking to a "rep" (who's job it is to get you off the phone with the least effect to their company) ask for a supervisor, then THEIR supervisor if necessary. Don't settle for a rep's comments you don't agree with! For me, 90% of the time, if I go up the channels and my claim is ligit, I usually am able to recover whatever it is I need/lost.
You may have already done all you could, but I thought I would mention this "just in case".
