Call me crazy, but I got this weird idea. Tell me what you think.
I've read a little bit about sound proofing, and if I understand right, you need to isolate, as well as seal your walls tight so that air does not escape to allow transfer of waves/sounds/what not.
Now the weird part...
My family drink a lot of water, therefor we have a lot of small water bottles. I was thinking if you need to seal your wall so air is trapped inside, would it be a benefit to pack the walls with empty water bottles that have air in them.
I was thinking about recycling them for my own use, but couldn't think of anything but this... lol
Is this the stupidest idea you've heard yet?? HAHA
Any body... :?:
Plastic Bottles...

Second stupidest... This was the stupidest. Study up on mass-air-mass construction (i.e., read the sticky threads). --Keith :mrgreen:Is this the stupidest idea you've heard yet?? HAHA
Instead of stuffing them in your wall (where they'll reduce your sound isolation), you can stack them up on the outside of your wall (in your recording/control room) and you've got a Helmholtz resonator bass trap. Put a little bit of sand or insulation in them and you'll broaden the Q of the trap. Also, all those bottles will act as polycylindrical diffusers...
Not a terribly effective bass trap...but it would be a way to employ empty plastic bottles in your studio...
Cheers
Kris
That Homemade Soundproofing thread is hilarious! Still I remember lining the walls of our practice room with egg cartons when I was a kid.
Yes I've done this myself. Shoot... This is so tacky... Regards, CThat Homemade Soundproofing thread is hilarious! Still I remember lining the walls of our practice room with egg cartons when I was a kid.
it's indeed funny and shit, keith
very funny, I translated and posted this on the Swedish bulding forum where all the myths are swooping down and around lately.. the reason beeing a show on TV showing people making there own music in there homes using all types of classic stuff like egg cartons and sacks of laundry.
Quite funny and very interesting to see that people actually use these things based on some old myths.

HAHAHAHA, if just read that thread with the "pop lids" or whatever it was, that was funny "and sh*t" HAHAHAHAH
i thought my cousins were the coolest kids around cuz they had a music room in their barn with egg cartons covering just about every inch of wall and ceiling space. . .and i had young ears then, so i convinced myself with my EYES that my EARS thought it sounded AMAAAAZZZZIIIINNGGGG!!! in there.
oh man, how influenced we can be sometimes. positively and negatively.
