This is a great site. I've turned many of my students on to it. And now I find myself in dire need of some idea's/inspiration for expanding my current home studio. The need for the expansion stems from turning my hobby studio into a home business studio. Making it a comfortable space and an attractive space that clients will expect when paying an hourly fee to record at my "garage". If I provide too much info, please forgive me in advance. My studio is basically half of a 2 car attached garage. The other half is a game room. Though the front of the garage has 2 separate garage doors, only one moves (game room) the other is fixed in place (studio). Total garage size is 22w x 21L. Garage inside has vaulted ceiling which is unfinished. I plan to do R19 and cover with 1/2 drywall the entire ceiling. Current studio is a room inside the garage 10w x 12L x 8 tall. It's just 2x4's with ply on outside, and finished with drywall 1/2 inside, it is insulated. I am on concrete slab. One of the walls shares the wall with the outside of the garage, the other 3 walls are all separate and free standing. I have one door into the studio which you enter only from inside the garage. I also have 1 door which enters to the garage from the back yard. From this door you enter into a space 10w x 7.5 L which is the pics I have shown with the pinball machine. It is this space I would like to convert into a control room, cut a window into the studio wall adjoining, building a wall to basically cut the entire Garage in perfects halves. That was my initial idea. And my other issue is air conditioning . Maybe using the gameroom, though large, as a cold room, then venting in that air to the studio and control room? But thats a question for another forum heading. So for certain I will need a separate vocal booth inside the studio. Other than that I am in need of ideas. Is the 2 room the best way? Or do the 1 long room? And other possibilities. ? I am hoping to use as much of the existing studio as possible, so knocking it all down and starting from scratch is not really an option. Also if I do the control room idea, that size of 10w x 7.5 L is going to force me to place my console perpendicular to the studio window. I'll stop now. Please any suggestions will not be taken lightly. Budget: $2500 materials (not incl HVAC), and this is all DIY. As for the pictures, the Pinball machine is the area I am talking about for the expansion/control room. You can just see the top of the door going into the studio. And the other door you see is the one leading to the backyard.

Can you please resize your picture to 700 pixels wide as per the forum rules? It is very difficult to read your posting as it is now.
thanks for the tip. I assumed it meant 700 pixel MAX. So I resized them, now they seem pretty big, but they are 700 across. Any other ideas?
Aloha and welcome to the forum, Any chance you could post a floor plan of your space with dimensions and locations of doors, windows, ceiling height and current studio? It'll help us visualize what you'll be working with. Thanks! Aloha 8)
yea, i did attempt a floor plan with the Sketcher thing, but for the life of me I couldn't figure it out. I will try again. I have a Mac BTW, so not sure that makes it harder to use the Sketcher thing.
Aloha, A handrawn sketch works just fine, as long as the measurements are accurate. Aloha 8)
I did my best in Sketchup, but when I print or save as jpg, none of the lines come out?? So I snapped a picture of the screen with Grabber. Though it will not let me resize it to 700. sorry.Does this make any sense?Ceiling height in studio is 8 feet. <p>
