EQ is not useful in my opinion. It's more of a band-aid than a solution. Bass traps and other treatment are the better solution. I agree - EQing speakers just doesn't work. Having high low shelving built in is not the same - what I'm referring to is the analyse with white noise/sweep tone and using a 1/3 octave EQ to try to make up for room anomalies.
It just doesn't work.
