Hi all. I posted a few weeks back in the construction forum about a 40 x 40 steel building that I own, but has yet to be erected. I know a steel building is not ideal and I never intended it to be used for a studio and like I posted in the construction forum I tried to sell it but no luck. I got a lemon help me make some lemonade. As suggested I am holding off on the foundation and erection until I have a design in place and then adjust the foundation blueprint accordingly. My #1 priority for this studio is mixing. I will sacrifice a great deal of floor space for the control room, so I can get the room as flat as possible. With that being said I hope to have enough space for a decent size live room and a iso room and bath room I look at this as a series of independent rooms being built 1 at a time with the control room build first (I can go to other studios to track until I get a live room or iso room completed. I am in a F16 flight path (luke AFB Arizona) but that will be more of a issue with tracking and the live room/iso room construction-I hope?

I don't think that a square control room is ideal. Probably your best starting point would be to decide on a ceiling height for your control room, and design the room from those measurements.
In Rod Gervais’ book “Build it Like the Pros,” (recommended) http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5670 he points out both L.W.Sepmeyer’s & M.M. Louden’s formulas most widely used in professional studios worldwide. He also notes that the orders listed are (top to bottom) the first to third best ratios in both cases. L.W. Sepmeyer Height Width Length 1.00 1.14 1.39 1.00 1.28 1.54 1.00 1.60 2.33 M.M. Louden Height Width Length 1.00 1.40 1.90 1.00 1.30 1.90 1.00 1.50 2.10
hope this helps
