I just read a post here recently that got me to thinking about the services and help we recieve on this site. Based on the "tone" of that post and it's eventual outcome & END, it moved me to write THIS post. There are many of us that come on here not having a clue as to how to REALLY construct a studio. We come on here with questions ranging from "what's dywall" to "is the density of the insulation critical to the overall capacity of soundwaves to travel between interior and exterior walls of extreme mass producing a reduction in certain frequencies?"...(huh????) A few of us just need a *little* help in constructing a studio, but MOST OF US NEED ALOTTA HELP! When I try to research on here for hours it gets tiresome. Heck, I've even drifted off to sleep in my chair reading. As I think about the time I spend on here at my leisure just trying to do what "I'm doing" I think about the moderators who spend HOURS on here not trying to do for THEM, but for others. Most of us answer questions here and there, but we do it at our leisure and stop possibly after a few responses. The moderators do MANY more on average than most of us will ever do. From my understanding, they do it for FREE. How many of us would actually do this on a consistant basis? Even as far as being cordial and answering the same questions over and over?(Most that are even answered in the reference section) How many of us would have the patience? There are other experts that contribute to this web site (I won't name them for fear of leaving someone out) but in this post I am mainly referring to John, Steve, the moderators & the contributing expert in the Constrction Forum Rod Gervais. Rod, John & Steve...this is especially for you... I could NEVER afford ANY of you I'm sure. I'm just a common guy like most of the rest on here trying to fulfill a dream I have...to build my own studio. Your years of expertise and wealth of knowledge is WAY beyond the ability and knowledge of 99% of the people on here. Without your help a lot of us would still be using "egg cartons". As I said, after I read the post I'm referring to it moved me to write this post (Rod...you know which post it was) I just felt inside, "hey somebody's gotta say it"... So here it is... I hope I speak for most people on here to tell you your help is NOT taken for granted. So to ALL of you moderators, John, Rod & Steve, Thank You...thank you for your time, patience and understanding...thank you for "giving back" to those of us in need...thank you for caring about "our dreams". To all reading this I would ask you to show how you feel if by nothing else than to post your name to say thank-you. I think these guys should know we appreciate them and I believe a long line of names would be just the thing to do...
I agree with all of that. I even put my money where my mouth is to show appreciation. I just don't think I ought to beileve something that is obviously not true becase a so called expert tells me it is. Do you?
Sup? :) Stan, i would have to say DITTO to all you have said and then some. I have seen more freely givin knowledge and encouragement on this board than almost every other board that i frequent put together. The hour or two a night i spend here reading and digging through the myriad of pages of topics are littered with helpful tips and suggestions to help us that are a little less knowledgeable or looking for some different ideas or points of view save ourselves some grief and $$$ in our endeavors to create the best space possible for our givin criteria. The guys here that do this sort of thing for a living have their jobs , and family's and I'm sure have very little time to answer the same ole same ole..they don't HAVE to or are REQUIRED to help with anything,,yet i have read countless times the same questions being answered courteously with a point in the right direction and very rarely with any irritation,,,so HELL YA, hats off to you guys and thank you for a great wealth of knowledge and comradery that this place offers. MOSH ON DAVE
Amen to that- THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!! x Infinity! :D I can't even begin to thank you guys eneough. My very first interaction with this site saved me hundreds of dollars - I was ready to use MLV until Keith pointed out what a waste of money it was. Since then I have had numerous similar experiences; not to mention just knowing someone is looking over your shoulder and checking your work for errors - a very re-assuring feeling!!! I have also found it a true inspiration reading though other peoples threads. helps me to: a) Know what to do / not to do. b) How to do it c) and a big one -stay motivated! There's nothing like seeing someone's completed build thread, or Kendales cloud to get you pumped and wanna finish! I feel like I have an extended family here and look at your all as my studio friends. If only we weren't so widely spread we could have Studio Forum Happy hour every couple of weeks. :D That would be sweet! Keith - you're the tech-wizard. Maybe when life calms down a bit we can find a way to create an online happy hour for the forum :D Cheers guys!
I didn't get the replies to my thread that I was hoping for (probably a result of poor quesitons more than anything else), but I certainly don't feel a sense of entitlement to answers from people who have their own lives to be getting on with and to be honest, I've learned so much from searching previous posts that I've already gotten a huge help from the site, so agreed Camistan. I'd like to hope I'd be as forthcoming with my time and expertise in such a setting. Anyways, I'll be in the music game for some time now, so I'm hoping to stick around and become knowledgeable on the subject. Maybe one day I'll even be able to answer a question, but for now, the answers just seem to lead to even more quesitons in my head :D
This forum rocks. Tons of great information. Priceless, really. I've been spending a lot of time here and it's just incredible. I've sent personal emails to John, Sharward, and Rod and haven't gotten responses. Maybe the emails are outdated? Or maybe they prefer all questions be asked in an open forum so all can benefit from the answer. I do see some lukewarm responses to some posts on this board, though...and then I see the time and attention some others get as a result of attacking another's credibility...
I sincerely appreciate camistan's very kind and thoughtful words and I hope I can keep this thread unlocked.

No, and we are wise to question things. Hell: most of what I learned from "experts" (selling crap) before I found this forum I had to UNlearn. But there's a line (and not a very fine one) between asking for clarification and explanation (the "whys") -- which are more than welcome by all the experts and/or longtimers here -- and the outright dismissal of cited facts, with insults and disrespectful tone as a chaser no less! If by "putting your money where your mouth is" means you made a contribution to the forum, I'm sure John appreciates that as the donations do help pay for some of his hosting expenses... He may not have a chance to thank you, so please accept mine in lieu. Again, challenges for clarification and education are always welcome... Just be cool about it, else you run the risk of biting the hand that educates you. ;-) As for my own recent lack of contribution/answers, I'm in the midst of a family emergency right now... Believe it or not, I'm actually typing this in the emergency room on my smartphone! Thanks again for the kind words, guys... I definitely feel the family connection here, too (hence the link about the personal thing going on)... --Keith

I appreciate that. I can't tell anyones tone here as there is no sound. But I don't think that the experts should call me names as he did. I never called ham a nasty name. I really like this forum. It seems to be the best. I will donate some more money when I get some. I encourage everyone to donate as well. I'll say a prayer for Sally as well.

eruss, on that I'll admit you're correct - I called you (in a moment of anger) an obnoxious little troll - and for that I apologize......... That was wrong of me/ Rod
Keith I fear you will have to lock this eventually. And I will keep this short because I want to say much more than Camistan's purpose for starting this thread. emoticon (bite my tongue) I put my money where my mouth was at the start. In the form of a contribution to John. This is a free site so no bitchin.... I bought Rods book and after a year on this site the book made it all come together. I wanted to make it easy and fast but you guys slowed me down to make it correct. If I didn't have the help and guidance you have given along the way I would be dissapointed with the end results So thank you all for the help and the nudges I needed. My studio is air tight, will hold water and I am gettign ready to kick up the speakers loud so the neighbors cant hear. Thanks to John, Where the Hell is Steve, Rod-for pushing me and Keith for being that pain in my ars  Much love Tom
ditto. reminder to myself: make a contribution, moneywise, to John to keep this site up and running. Much appreciation for all the help and all other good stuff. so, yeah, where the hell's Steve?
OK: I think the dust has settled and we can all get back to our regularly scheduled awesomeness. :-D Rod, I've never seen you lose your C8)8)L before (and, on a technicality, the "name calling" you did was in the context of an either-or scenario, but I s'pose it qualifies nonetheness), but it's understandable given the tone. eruss, you are correct that the inherent limitations of written communications do sometimes lead conversations in the wrong direction. Just to cap this off, at the risk of a minimal amount of dead horse beating, please continue "lightening up" as you have demonstrated in this thread, and you'll be fine. :) If you don't already have Rod's book, you should definitely buy it... As TomVan puts it, it does a great job of assembling the concepts strewn about on this forum. I can recall only one other time someone left here in a huff, and even then we had done considerable backwards-bending in what turned out to be a feeble attempt to reverse the ill feelings. --Keith

Thanks Rod. Apology accepted. Is there any way we can drop the vetilation issue? I am really going to need help on my speaker soffits. I'll worry anout the ventilation later if it becomes a problem. I do have a way but above the studio if I need to.

I do have his book. I have read it many times. And dispite these differences I still recomend it.

Having had more than my share of family emergencies over the years, I wish you and the family all the best.
Just chiming in to pile on and say - Thanks to those who contribute their time and opinion here. I'll be working in our basement later this spring and summer as soon as my shoulder heels up (surgery - ugh...). I too spend hours paging through the accounts and pull a little something from each of them. thanks.
