Hi everyone :D I am going on the road in a rv for a year to write and record myself and garage bands About the RV: The Rv is 21' long. 16 MPG and the size to manover through towns is why I bought her:

My goal is to be able to have 2 people inside with acoustic guitars able to play and record. The passenger seat swivels around so one could sit there and one could sit somewhere in the middle as well. I would like if possible to keep the middle fairly poen so I have some space to live since it will be my home for a year or so. What I am troubled is with is speaker orentiation and placement of my rack gear. I have the following: 1ru: presonus central station Aurora 16 DACs furman power conditioner 96 tt bantam patchbay 2ru: 2x Pendulum audio MDP1's Uaudio M-610 3ru 2x Mindprint DTCs 4ru Rackmount computer And 2 Event ASP8's In the sketchup file I set the speakers firing the long way down the rv, to the rear where the perminate bed is that could be propped up for a bass absorber. It seemed better to avoid the reflections shooting the short way which is only 6'8" wide and I drew up to the height of the windows I am having a hard time using sketchup. It's not as intuitive as my DAW! Here are a few pictures of the inside:

Sketchup File: http://woodcreststudio.com/temp/RV/rv_interior4.skp I have ideas of 2x19" racks side by side on the left side. One above the heater and one in front of that. Any creative thoughts would be great!
wow, what a cool project! I'm envious! No ideas for you at the moment, but let me think it over....
Hi Glenn, I did check out that design. My rig will be a bit smaller (size of the RV and amount of equipment). I am taking another stab at at again tonight (rack placement). If I con=me up with something I will post some picts.. Something happened to my account. I went to update my amail address and now when I try to log on I get a blank screen :? So I registered again
Hy guys, All right, I spent a while reconfiguring my studio for a mockup of the interior and this is what I came up with. The mcu will be on a post-wole table along with a keyboard and mouse. The LCD not pictured will be either hung in the front between the speakers or mounted to the table where the MCU will sit. Whew, I'm getting the hang of sketchup. This only took me all day to sketch! lol! What do ya think?

I don't think I'd put the CPU over the heater  also that seat is going to get pretty uncomfortable ;-) otherwise it looks like a workable layout. my main concern would be if you used the monitors while trying to record some acoustic guitars since the wrap around of the bass from the monitors might be a problem. headphones for tracking... have you considered a portable console rig which would enable you to move the equipment in and out of the van? this way if you found some gigs where you wanted to move inside you'd have that option. here's something i was toying with last year - a fold up box for the mixer and some key effects and patching (which connect to the rack units using snakes w/ bulk connectors). and 2 19" racks with DAW, ADATs, etc...

I couldn't find a place anywhere else for it. It's so deep compaired to the rest of my rack gear. The heater is forced hot air and I think it's only 1500btu. The heat coming out isn't really hot. I was going to isolate the computer rack from the heat exchange (insulation and air cavity). The heater is also pretty loud. I wouldn't use it while tracking or mixing. Only during ear breaks.

Right on. I never use nearfields tracking in the same room with them unless I'm reamping. Always use headphones.

Nice drawing. 8) I have considered. I'll think about it again. It's just that the RV is only 21' long and the rear is a built-in bed. Under the bed is the engine comartment. It's a pusher-style RV. I could make the 2 racks removable. I just have a hard time seeing moving the gear into an untreated room. The inside of the RV actually sounds pretty good. The ceiling has about 2" compressed opencell insulation covered by a thin carpret. I was going to pergo the floor for easy clean up and have some runners to lay down. I just demoed the bathroom last night. I will try to take some pictures of the progress. cheers! Tom
