So, this is very much in the "dreaming" stage, though I'd like to build an iso booth soonish. I'd like to have a general idea of where I'm going with things, because I'd prefer not to have to undo things later and do things twice. I attached two files - the Sketchup file I'm working with and a screenshot thereof. I'm not too good with Sketchup yet, so I apologize for the generally shoddy work there. There's a few "immobile" objects - the stairs really can't be relocated, the 6 green poles keep the house from collapsing on me, and the big rectangle to the right of the mix position is a chimney. I want to keep the toilet as a bathroom, and the corner between the two staircases is most likely going to remain a laundry room. The two existing rooms are actually walled in with tongue and groove flooring from the early 1900's, so I'm going to disassemble those and re-use the flooring in the studio. There isn't enough to do the whole thing, but maybe the control room and an iso booth. The two rooms will be rebuilt as a single long room the width of the stairs to be my workshop. I'm planning on putting the first iso booth where the speakers are now. I want to basically finish the hexagon, though it won't be symmetrical at all. I haven't decided if I want to continue as a one-room operation like I've been doing or put a wall up between the control room and the live room. I appreciate any input! Thanks MPEDrummer [edit]File was too big to upload, here's a link instead. http://tim.komta.com/studio/Basement.skp [/edit]

Here's a screenshot of my current idea. It's not concrete enough to be called a plan... MPEDrummer

maybe turn the CR sideways so its facing the chimney and put a glass door on the isobooth.

Glenn - thanks for the recommendations. How did you get the guide lines to be at angles like that? I'm having a hell of a time getting the angles to be consistent, other than 90 degrees. I uploaded a new "raw" form for the basement, with walls where I'm going to be rebuilding the rooms. The one near the stairs is going to be my workshop and the other one will be a machine room. It has to go there because that's where the gas meters, etc, are. Here's the link for the new file - http://tim.komta.com/studio/Basement2.skp Thanks again MPEDrummer
what is the (appears to be raised) area on the floor? to the left of the alcove?
8 hours of hard work waiting for me. It's where the boiler used to be, and it's actually part of the concrete slab of the basement - not a separate pad like it would be in a modern house. Our house was built in 1906. MPEDrummer
ah... i had something like that in my 1928 home - it was a cast-in cement block for the washer machine which was bolted into the floor - no rocking and bouncing due to off loads back then... I'll pretend that spot is flat... :-)
In the second skp file, it is - the first one is "as is", the second is "as will be" - basically, the second one is a better representation of the space I'll be able to work with. MPEDrummer
