im getting prices for adding an addition to my home to build a studio and I found that sunrooms are about $10,000 cheaper than a conventional build. Wondering what this does in terms of acoustics? Speaking to the contractor..he said that in terms of isolation and noise it is excellent...as far as the accoustics of the room he had no idea. Any thoughts?

Sunroom control room?

Do you want to read a book by a window or do you want to play and record music? A studio and a sunroom are not mutually exchangeable in their purpose. I've been in many a sunrooms, and though from a audible standpoint, conversations and light music playing are fine, one cannot expect anything louder would be acceptable for neighbors or ordinances. Of course the builder said it would be excellent, he wants work right? Sunrooms lack the arrangment of purpose built walls and materials to isolate, attenuate, and create a studio of any real value to someone who is urposely making the choice to spend a big chunk of change with music in mind. Sunrooms by their inherent design...letting sun in, requires windows which are hugely insufficient for acoustics. IMO you should consider what you really want from your studio, or if you want to spend lots of money on a sunroom only to either regret it, or replace it down the road with a place you can realistically record and practice in.im getting prices for adding an addition to my home to build a studio and I found that sunrooms are about $10,000 cheaper than a conventional build. n8nod9it, awesome response. I agree 110%.
Jeton, buy Rod's book. I'm not picking on you,0but you definitely need the education Rod's book will give you. You cannot afford to be talking to contractors about a studio build without it.
