Hi, I've been reading this forum for a while and its great, now I'm going to re-build my own studio and I need some help.
I got a 4.29mts x 4.29mts x 2.23mts room that I want to divide it in 2: a control room and an ADR/Foley booth.
I end up with some drawings of my own and one adapted from Scott Foster and another from this forum, I need to decide which one is the better or if you can, suggest me a new one.
I added a comment to each drawing with my pros and cons, correct me if I'm wrong
Thanks for your help.

more floor plans, what do you think?
thanks

something similar to your last design would seem to work best.
Gullfo, thanks for your time, very nice design,
how important is to have or not to have a live room when the main recordings are foley and ADR and the space is very limited (not bigger than 5 square meteres or 60 feets square)?? is it better to have a live room or a bigger iso booth??

hi, I think there are too much doors, could be better a window between the control and the iso booth (for sound isolation) and a curtain between the live and the iso/dead room. Maybe I never need to record in both rooms at the same time, so the curtain can be full open so I can have a bigger place to do foley (with the curtains off) and full closed so I have a very big bass trap when I record anything on the booth, all the control room can act as a basstrap while the curtain absorb mid-hi frequencies and basses pass trough it.
gullfo: thanks again, could you upload the skp file please?? i-d like to play with diemensions and work with room ratios. By the way, how would you calculate'em??? it's not a rectangle shoe box!!
thanks for answering
here's the sketchup. no its not a rectangle but if you average the dimensions you can approximate the ratio. even so you'll be constrained between having the best ratio to having the best space for people to work so likely some trade off is needed.
Hi, I've been playing for a while with gullfo's sketchup file, because I've just started to learn that program, i've to redrawn it in photoshop to test things faster.
Original control room size: 242 x 248 x 215 cm
Original control room ratio: 1 : 1.12 : 1.15
New control room size: 300 x 250 x 215
New control room ratio: 1 : 1.16 : 1.39 that's very near one of the best room ratios, "2) L. W. Sepmeyer: 1965" 1 : 1.14 : 1.39
Original Live room size: 2.07 x 2.07 x 2.15
Original Live room ratio: 1 : 1 : 1.03
New DEAD room size: 2.55 x 1.56 x 2.15
New DEAD room ratio: 1 : 1.37 : 1.63
I don't know if the averages I've used to calculate the modal response are right or not, i've done it by hand, is there any matematical way to do it? How important are room modes on this kind of non rectangular rooms? Do you take in count bass traps to calculate room modes (I did)?
Do you like the design? do you have new ideas?
Thanks for helping me out
the bass traps don't count for much in the ratio calculation but the CR-live room wall will change the average dimensions.
