Hey Everyone! Lurker here....... I am trying to improve my monitoring situation, as best that I can with a room with these dimensions:
9'8' WIDE
10' LONG
8' HIGH
I am going to be building Bass Traps and Broadband Absorbers as per the designs shown [http://johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5930]. Possibly also some clouds for over the mix position if budget allows.
My questions is where should I place these units on my back wall specifically? My rear wall has a door AND a closet, making it difficult to place anything.
I have attached a quick top diagram of the room and a picture of the rear wall.
I am thinking a broadband on the wall between the door and the closet, and a bass trap in the ceiling corner, directly above the closet. The only other option I can think of would be to create panels that go on the door and closet doors. ( these would likely need to be removed when using doors.....fun!)
Any ideas as to placement would be fantastic!
Cheers
Andrew

Aloha,
Perhaps something like this for starters?

Hope this helps,

Yup! Thats basically what I'm going to do. I already intended to have broadband absorbers and bass traps positioned on the early reflection points and corners respectively. Also behind the monitors.
My main problem is that I don't really have any corners on the rear wall because of the closet and door. Both of them are in the way of placing bass traps in the corners.
I can place an absorber or a bass trap over the closet but I'm not sure how. Should it be flush against the wall (absorber) or straddling the wall and ceiling (bass trap)? I could do the same over the door but I'm not sure if it would be beneficial.
Perhaps I will take more photos and post them. That might make the actual layout of the space easier to understand.

Better photos still to come...
I suppose what I'm asking for is opinions on which method do people think will be most effective in treating the rear wall of this small room:
1.) Building bass traps for the rear corners, to be placed straddling the corner of the wall and closet, and also the door to the room, both needing to be removable for access.
or
2.) Building absorbers to be placed leaning in front of the closet, and leaning against the door.
or
3.) Both of the above combined.
Anyone have a similar situation with their rear wall?

I would suggest building something portable, like gobos of some kind, that covers the corners of your backwall.
besides that; Whats in yer closet, man  If its filled with clothes, you allready have a Basstrap in your backwall :) Try opening tha closetdoors and listen for changes... and maybe some thick drapes across the "door niche" will be all that you need to "disipline" your room.... dont fix it if it aint wrong!
Good luck!
