This is my life right now. It never seems to end. I am beginning to really hate the smell of acoustic sealant, and the constant film of drywall dust that has coated everything. I am beginning to get what seems to be carpel tunnel from all of the cutting and sealing. And my thumb really hurts. I managed to slip the drill off of a screw and right into my nail which is now black and throbbing. Yes today is one of those days i probably should have stayed in bed. Oh the joys of studio building. To those that haven't started their builds yet, endless fun awaits you...lol :D I do see the light at the end of the tunnel though, its only about 1 light year away!
n8nod9it You got it ..... my hands and finger joints have only just recovered from January's build. I lost a hell of a lot of weight though........this was a GOOD thing....for me. Then 4 of us carefully laid the largest wall on the floor (with drywall installed and sealed) with my finger chossing to rest in between the concrete and horizontal wall.....Nice.... ;) Keep at it dude, I got through by setting achievable missions daily, take regular breaks and drink plenty of water. (I found sodas would keep me awake all night - not helping was the mind doing "miles" chewing over solution design into the wee hours) - you then wake the next morning "rooted" as we say in Oz = VERY VERY exhausted.... ;) You are in "that" caulk phase. It is a killer - I empathise - toward the end of the build I actually took a day off and went on a picnic with my wife. It is brilliant what one day off can do (especially if you are like I was - 7am - 11:45pm - 7 days a week for a month). It feels like there is no end - but all of a sudden things will slow and then pickup again and then you are done....like learning to drive a manual car - you never actually remember or momentarily acknowledge you have the gear change/shuffle/friction point happening till some time after you have accomplished it and are running on auto pilot. ;) Hang in there......I appreciate yr post immensely - I didn't go near the computer of guitar for about 6 weeks while I was build obsessed.....I take my hat off to you (if I had one ) ;) Take Care and remember to breathe (fresh air when you can) PS Play Neil Young's Harvest and Rush's "moving pictures" while you work - dunno why but it helped me break light speed 8)

Now THAT sounds like one heck of a good idea!! :D Rush is one of my all time favorite bands,,,and I guess my Studio Build will/can resume in about 45 days (and counting). :D :D I hate winter!!! Ahhh the joys and pains I get to look forward to. n8nod9it - Look at the bright side, your at the caulking stage,,,all I have so far are footers and a foundation. My fun didnt even start yet!!  But I still cant wait!! AJ

I'm gaining weight...must be the beers i'm drinking as i build..lol Then 4 of us carefully laid the largest wall on the floor (with drywall installed and sealed) with my finger chossing to rest in between the concrete and horizontal wall.....Nice.... ;) Keep at it dude, I got through by setting achievable missions daily, take regular breaks and drink plenty of water. I made it my New years promise to drink more water but re-read my last statement....haha. Does coffee count as well?? :P You are in "that" caulk phase. It is brilliant what one day off can do (especially if you are like I was - 7am - 11:45pm - 7 days a week for a month). I don't work weekends on the studio. Fortunately i have time during the days to knock out 6 hours per day of dedicated construction on this all by myself. I think an extra hand would help but i have managed so far without. When my ceilings are ready i will be definately getting help. But by the end i will definately be taking a month off to just recouperate as i am getting sore all over. Its not just the studio but i also remodeled my kitchen and living room (new windows, floors, countertops etc)...and all the plumbing and wiring to boot. So i am really pushing it but i usually dedicate the time off to rest before i make any major goofs or injury. So yeah, i just picked up 2 cases more of caulk. Thats 48 tubes i think ill use in this whole build. I am caulking everything!!! Seriously once you really take a look at things ground level you see pathways sound can travel throughout the structure you normally wouldn't think. Example... There was a gap all around the footing of the garage where the sole plate was mounted. I overlooked this but after feeling some cold air coming in, i saw that there were voids. My caulking gun used to be blue..its white now..haha It feels like there is no end - but all of a sudden things will slow and then pickup again and then you are done....like learning to drive a manual car - you never actually remember or momentarily acknowledge you have the gear change/shuffle/friction point happening till some time after you have accomplished it and are running on auto pilot. ;) Hang in there......I appreciate yr post immensely - I didn't go near the computer of guitar for about 6 weeks while I was build obsessed.....I take my hat off to you (if I had one ) Thanks for the great reply it really made me feel better since others are suffering as well...hehe :P I haven't seriously touched my drums for some time...just too tired to play lately and the extra abuse on my arms and wrists won't make things better so until then. ;) Take Care and remember to breathe (fresh air when you can) PS Play Neil Young's Harvest and Rush's "moving pictures" while you work - dunno why but it helped me break light speed 8)
good one..ill remember that. Or play some of that techno-dance stuff...it seems to keep the kids up all night dancing, maybe it'll keep me up working. Ok bad idea...

I was just in a bitchy mood and had to vent i guess...i do have it better than some, but some days are frustrating and monotonous. Looking back i'm only about 2 months into it and am about %45 done so thats not so bad huh?

Good idea -- but you have to sing along with lyrics adjusted to reflect what you're doing...
A modern day worker Mean, mean stride Today's stuido builder Mean, mean pride Though his tools are not for rent Don't put him down as arrogant Soon to be a quiet place But for now, dust on his face And drywall What you say about his music choice Is what you say about that singing voice Catch the plan, give it a look For cryin' out loud, buy Rod's book! The wall is, the wall is Heavy and full of mass Careful as he falls, on ass
Aw, well -- you get the idea. --Keith
THere is no way I could wait a year to build a studio. I like recording too much. :P I would have to hire someone to get it done sooner. My hands hurt from caulking. No pain, no gain! :)
NIce one Sharward! 8) Quick off the mark as ever....we recorded drums with the infamous three mic technique on Sunday - you guys would be proud......:) The ISO room sounds nothing short of AMAZING....(well a fine kit helped)
