Hey gang,
My first post here after a lot of reading of the site. Great place. I couldn't find this answer after much searching though.
We're building Ethan Winer's bass traps, plus covering some Owens-Corning 703 with fabric. My question is about fabric: Does it have to be flame retardant? I called my fire inspector guy (Portland, OR), and he said "yes", although I'm not convinced he quite understood what I was talking about. I never worried about it before, but since we're building a new studio I don't want to do anything I have to tear down!
Has anyone had fire inspections where fabric issues came up? If I should use flame retardant fabric any good sources anyone recommends?
Thanks so much!
Fabric and Flame Retardant Issues

Hi Larry,
Hope this helps - contact http://www.macquarietextiles.com.au/contract/duet.php re DUET cloth.
They service Asia Pacific and UK only BUT I am sure they will know of same/similar outlet in USA.
Most textiles and clothing (manual intensive labour = has generally been better to outsource offshore from here since the 1970's) as such are manufactured OS anyhow so I am sure you can get it under a diferent name in USA - hope this helps. :)
Aloha,
Perhaps something like this - http://www.silentsource.com/acousticore ... hart1.html

Thanks, looks like those sources are good. I'm moving ahead assuming it's better to have flame retardant fabric than to have to pull it all down later.
One word of advice: Any time you add foam, fabric or insulation-based treatment save a copy of your receipt and the specs for the project just to show your fire inspector. It's simple and might save you a lot of grief...
