Hi bros, I got a floor plan of a room.
And i would like to divide it to 2 (one control room and one live room)
the height of this room is 8'
i want a control room like about 16'x14'
however, this room has some corner which is very annoying.
Please give me some suggestions
and feel free to draw on it.Please
thank you!
Best,
KIT
Need some help for this floor plan.

Aloha,
Resized your drawing to eliminate scrolling (forum rules.)
How set are you on those dimensions? In Rod Gervais’ book “Build it Like the Pros,” http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5670 he points out both L.W.Sepmeyer’s & M.M. Louden’s formulas most widely used in professional studios worldwide. He also notes that the orders listed are (top to bottom) the first to third best ratios in both cases. L.W. Sepmeyer Height Width Length 1.00 1.14 1.39 8’ x 9’1” x 11’1” 1.00 1.28 1.54 8’ x 10’2” x 12’3” 1.00 1.60 2.33 8’ x 12’8” x 18’6” M.M. Louden Height Width Length 1.00 1.40 1.90 8’ x 11’2” x 15’2” 1.00 1.30 1.90 8’ x 10’4” x 15’2” 1.00 1.50 2.10 8’ x 12’ x 16’8” So before we start drawing, which of these (if I've done the calcs right) would you like to start from? Best case ratios or larger size? Aloha 8)the height of this room is 8'. i want a control room like about 16'x14'
I would choose either
1.00 1.60 2.33 8’ x 12’8” x 18’6”
OR
1.00 1.40 1.90 8’ x 11’2” x 15’2”
Sorry for this BAD POOR drawing,
is it good to place the control room and live room like this?
If you got any better idea, please draw it out.
thank you very much!
Aloha,
Perhaps something like this?
M.M. Louden
Height Width Length
1.00 1.40 1.90 8’ x 11’2” x 15’2”
Doors, acoustic treatments, live/iso rooms, and storage to follow.

Aloha,
Here's some food for thought:
- Is this for personal or business? If business, will you need a reception area, lounge, disability approved restrooms?
- In your drawing, how do feel about musicians carting their equipment through the control room? Perhaps some provision for load in of equipment might be in order?
- How much line of sight do you require?
- How many do foresee recording at one time?
Aloha 8)
YEP, I had the same idea. But i would like to make some more options to consider.
how about 1.00 1.60 2.33 --- 8’ x 12’8” x 18’6”
i kinda like larger size..
the spot next to the toilet has the width shorter than 12'8"
Aloha,
Okay, cool. :D
Let me pull something up and post.
Be back in a bit.

-This is for business. but this place is kind of small, so i might not need a reception area, lounge and restroom -oh shit, this is a problem i didn't think about -for line of sight, i need windows at the front wall, and side wall then i can see what is going on in the iso booth. - How many do foresee recording at one time? I dont get what this mean  Please give me some suggestion, if i dont put the control room next to the main door. because it's not good if musician needs to load in equipment pass throught the CR. also do you think it's possible to leave space for a restroom?Aloha, Here's some food for thought: - Is this for personal or business? Aloha,
How close is the nearest restroom(toilet)?-This is for business. but this place is kind of small, so i might not need a reception area, lounge and restroom
No worries, now that you've caught this one before it happened.-oh shit, this is a problem i didn't think about

How many musicians/instruments will you be recording at one time - 5 piece rock band/ string quartet/symphony/big band? This info will help determine how big a live room you will need.- How many do foresee recording at one time? I dont get what this mean
Working on it, and will post soon. Please give me some suggestion, if i dont put the control room next to the main door. because it's not good if musician needs to load in equipment pass throught the CR.
Yes, I agree that it's a good idea to have at least one. Aloha 8)also do you think it's possible to leave space for a restroom?
Aloha,
Okay, revision #1 for your review and some thoughts:
- Control room 1.00 1.60 2.33 --- 8’ x 12’8” x 18’6”
- Clear line of sight to both live room & vocal booth
- Clear load in area to live room
- For easier access, perhaps a set of double doors
- Live room angled walls @ 6 degrees, possible to increase to 12
- Storage closet in live room
- Restroom should be a little bigger
Aloha 8)
HAHAA  ....restroom(toilet), now i got what u mean, i thought it means a room for take rest...haa
anyway. I like the design. and I can make the restroom(toilet) larger just by making the iso booth shorter
- Instruments will be recorded at one time would be pretty much a 4 to 5-piece rock band
So i want a double door between CR and live ROom, and put glass window on thte right side wall for the line of sight to the live room.
to compare the double door and the slide window door, which one do better to isolate sound?
:D
Aloha,
Revision #2
- control room/live room double doors
- control room side window
- shorten vocal booth
- enlarge restroom
Haven't review the specs for either in awhile, but I would say properly installed and sealed solid core double doors on the live room side will probably give you better isolation. Properly installed and sealed acoustical sliding glass doors on the vocal booth side is sufficient. Here are a few links on doors and windows on this side of the pond. Perhaps there may be several manufacturers on your side who offer similar products. If you do find a few, please post them on the building product forum. http://www.overly.com/door/ http://www.overly.com/door/index.cfm?curPage=education http://www.silentsource.com/adoors-overly.htm http://www.soundcontrolroom.com/door_details.htm http://www.acousticalsolutions.com/prod ... l_kits.asp Aloha 8)to compare the double door and the slide window door, which one do better to isolate sound?
WOO... the pics are very nice.
I decided to use this placement for my studio. All spaces are used except the very small square on the top left corner.
I will draw a floor plan with the dimension on it.
Kendale, any software recommend to draw a floor plan?. the software that I am using is kind of suck, i can't make the dimension accurately.
Aloha,
PM me your email and I'll send you the drawing.! will draw a floor plan with the dimension on it.

Revision #3 with changes you requested.

The idea of an open floor plan is to give the appearance of spaciousness. In order to keep that open look the colors need to be light. Any light color will do but it depends on the atmosphere you're trying to create. To give warmth to the space use warm colors like yellows, reds, oranges, to make it cool and airy use greens or blues. To bring the space closer together (give the appearance of less the space) use dark colors like eggplant or a deep rich blue. Neutral colors will give it a more outdoor feel.

Excuse me, but what does any of that have to do with the acoustic properties of the studio? And why have all of your posts so far been nothing but thinly disguised plugs for your own web site? The idea of an open floor plan is to give the appearance of spaciousness. I don't know about you guys, but I'm starting to think I need one of those Integrity Luxury Homes.
I hear they come with fully configured 5,000 square foot STC 90 studios, complete with customized SSL console, and a matched set of four U47's! And all for under 10 grand! But only if you submit your fully-dimensioned floor plan, of course....
