I just bought alot of Dap 50 year caulk. It does not say anything about accustical on it. Is there another key word I look for to know if it is the right stuff?
http://www.contractorstoolsupply.com/os ... ries-sc175™-acoustical-sound-sealant-p-2591.html Heres what you want. It remains flexible, has high solids count for sound isolation, and is fire resistant. Also it comes in 28oz tubes which is double the size of those small tubes of caulk. The tube says Acoustic or Sound formula on it and its only 2.99 a tube! I get mine at Toolup locally for the same price without the ship charges. Also check out Dan F's thread on backer rod and the stickies for proper use of it.

So there is no way that Home depot has what I need? do you think Home Depot has backer rod?
They don't carry the caulk but do carry backer rod, however I would not buy it from them as it's ridiculously expensive. I found a building supplies place locally that carried it in boxes of 500ft. Call around a few places and you'll save a fortune!
Is there really that much difference between regular 50 year polyrurathane caulk and 50 year acustical caulk? :?:

Why deviate from the norm? You're building an acoustic environment, not an aquarium. Use the right materials especially when the acoustic sealant is likely cheaper and meant for the job. Return that DAP stuff and order the Sc175... its also easier to clean up since its water based and doesn't outgas as much.
