Lining Duct Work

By industry standard definitions: Lined duct = lining on the inside Insulated Duct = insulation wrapping the outside. Requirments for the construction of duct lining and duct insulation wrap are 2 different things. The materials are not inter-changable. Duct liner cannot have a vapor barrier Duct insulation requires a vapor barrier. Duct insulation will do nothing to quiet down duct noises- i.e.: fan noise traveling through the duct - metal expansion/contraction during start-up phases, rumbling and buffeting or air in the duct, etc. Duct liner will help tremendously to stop unwanted sound from traveling through ductwork. An alternative is Johns Manville super duct (or any equivilent) which is a rigid insulated duct board that does not require the use of galvanix\ze metal duct as a part of the assembly. I hope this helped, Sincerely, RodFor clarification, does duct work get lined on the inside or the outside? Thanks!
