i've been thinking (okay dreaming) about slot resonators during my studio design/build. . and i have an idea, maybe more of a question.
first, let me state the factors involved in a slot resonator
1. slot width
2. slat width
3. slat depth
4. depth from wall
If you are trying to build a broadband (lo-mid) absorber, it's common practice to vary the depth from the wall. . . I'm thinking about adding another "varied" factor- the slot depth. All of the designs i've been researching call for varying the depth of the slots PER slat.
Why not angle the slats accordingly to produce a varied slot depth per slat.
here's a rough not properly proportioned sketch of the idea.
any thoughts?
helmholtz altered design?

johnholy geez!!!!! thats awesome.
thanks for the reply
if i were to take your standard design (via the SAE site and the others here)
for a broadband low-mid trap. . .would altering the design to vary the slot depths in this fashion help me in any significant way? or is it basically the same?
if it will help. . .and assuming the largest depth of my trap is 12". . . should the short side gap be 1/4" and the big gap be 1/2"??
well in this one the slot gaps are varying - varying the depth is also OK
the slots here have a variable depth
