Hello everyone!
Well, I am getting ready to move to Nashville, TN and my new house has a fairly decent basement where I plan on putting my studio. Now, I have been reading as much as I could about all this on the forum but I am overwhelmed, I just can't get that much information in my head that quickly (I move in a couple of months).
My goal really isn't to have a state of the art studio, I don't have a lot of gear and I can't spend a lot of money. I simply want to take the room I have, build a vocal booth (hopefully big enough to record guitar amps and maybe acoustic guitar) and do it in the simplest, smartest and cheapest way possible. I intend to take care of the acoustics later on but that's not a concern right now... all I want to do is to decide how I will do it so I can put up the walls and paint before I actually move in.
Besides that desk and the booth I will also have an electric drum kit that does not need isolation, it will work as a midi trigger.
Now, I have downloaded Sketch and tried to come up with some ideas. I am aware this idea will suck, but I'll post them anway.... I spent the last 2 hours working on it....
Now, I don't plan on using the whole room, only the 10x27 space, you'll see what I mean when you see the sketch, but I'm open to any ideas or pointers you may have.
Ok, let's take a look at some pictures

Here's the Sketch file and the the idea I had. Please, let me know of any suggestions you may have to improve it, I'm running out of time... I'm closing on March 8!!!
:? Thanks so much in advance!!!!
Just updated the pictures...
Aloha,
Nice job on the skp updates. Why not put the control room into what you've just drawn?
Here's another idea to give you some better room ratios.
In Rod Gervais’ book “Build it Like the Pros,” he points out both L.W.Sepmeyer’s & M.M. Louden’s formulas most widely used in professional studios worldwide.
L.W. Sepmeyer
Height Width Length
1.00 1.14 1.39
9’ x 10’3” x 12’5”
M.M. Louden
Height Width Length
1.00 1.40 1.90
9’ x 12’6” x 17’1”
In your case, with your ceiling height L.W. Sepmeyer's ratios are very close to the space you have to work with.

Aloha,
Here's another look...

Oh, those look good! Thanks a lot!
So you're suggesting that I have my control room in the "new room", right? So what about the vocal booth?
Thanks again! :D
Aloha,
Yes, that is correct. Glad to hear it might work for you. The improvement in your monitoring & mixing environment will be amazing.
What's in what appears to be a closet area at the rear of the newly proposed control room?

That is indeed a closet, though I don't know the size yet... It seemed to be fairly big for a closet but I'm not sure if it would be big enough for a booth.... I'll be down there in a couple of weeks again so I'll make sure I come back knowing the size of the closet.
Aloha,
Cool. Just in case, I'll work up something and post a skp pic.
