I'm making slats for my slat resonators and the wood that I have available is finished at less than the recommended 1" thickness. They are made from cedar and they are about 13/16". Is that acceptable? I didn't know how much latitude one had in regard to measurements.
Thanks,
Geoffrey
How important is slat thickness?

depending on how you construct your resonator will determine the center frequency of it. a 3/16" difference means the center frequency will be different. if you are creating an angled "broadband" slat wall, its probably less critical than a high-Q resonator where you are targeting a small band of frequencies.
Thanks gullfo,
I'm making what I assume to be broadband resonators. Two of them are angled (like a wedge along the wall) and one is a rectangular box (8" deep) between my speaker soffits. My room is only about 7'x11' with a 7' ceiling. Two of the resonators are good sized, relative to the room--about 31" wide by 81" tall. The ones for the side walls (the wedge shaped ones) are about 12" deep at the fat end, tapering down to about 4".
Anyway, I'm hoping to do a bit more consulting with John at some point because the math is beyond me. I'm not lazy, just so completely dense when it comes to mathmatics that I usually have to hire someone to do it for me  Ah, well...I guess it's good to know my limits.
Thanks again for the reply.
