-The studio is on a concrete slab with no one above. -Located in Chicago with no neighbors. I've just completed the framing and am trying to decide what to put in the walls, Roxul, 703, pink stuff, etc. That is when I came across this product. It is called Ultratouch and is made by a company called Bonded Logic. It is fire rated recycled blue jeans. The acoustic specs look really great. They almost match 6" of 703 (data on the 703 was obtained from Rod Gervais's book). Here is the acoustic data from the Bonded Logic website of the UltraTouch: Acoustical Performance Sound Absorption was tested in accordance with ASTM E90-02, ASTM C423 (Type A mounting per ASTM E 795) PRODUCT ABSORPTION COEFFICIENTS @ OCTAVE BAND FREQUENCIES Hz .................125 250 500 1000 2000 4000 NRC/STC R-13 3.5in .95 1.30 1.19 1.08 1.02 1.00 NRC 1.15 R-19 5.5in .97 1.37 1.23 1.05 1.00 1.01 NRC 1.15 The 3.5 inch is 66 cents/sf US. That is about twice as much as the pink stuff but way cheaper than doing 6" of 703. Any how I'm willing to pay for it if these numbers are correct. Are there other questions or concerns that I should be aware of?

any links?
egg, I was impressed by the numbers, and I had read some good things about those folks who had actually used the stuff. They were really happy with it because they could work with it with no ill effectcs such as itching. It is really well fire rated as well. I had planned on using it in my studio, but the local source to me stopped carrying it. I did not want to have to deal with the next vendor who was about 200 miles away. I had planned on using it outside the walls for acoustic absorption. It was my impression the in the walls it only becomes thermal insulation the same as the pink stuff.... perhaps I am wrong. I can see where a denser insulation would perhaps dampen sound transfer between the leaves of a structure better than a lighter insulation. I say use it if you can afford to. Tom
yay, Ultratouch. I used it to build some corner absorbers and some gobos. Works great. It is a very floppy, much closer to fluffy pink fiberglass than rockwool or 703. So it doesn't make nice, neat panels without some serious help. But to use it as isulation should work just fine, with very good specs.

Don't waste your money........... The gain with absorption is inside a room - not inside a wall........ Use the high density pink fluffy stuff inside the wall cavities - and save the extra money for room treatments......... Rod
Thanks Rod, That's the answer I was looking for. Will this work as bass trap material? The book has been very helpful. Steps beyond anything else out there.
Does pink fluffy come in various densities? Hmmm always appears the same density to me... What are the densities available for like OC brand pink fluffy? and what density Rod do you suggest to use for walls? So even if you have rockwool for walls, use highesy density pink fluffy? or is that not what you are saying.. thx - David
www.bobgolds.com - check the absorption properties page. its lists products and their qualities.

THey make a r15 that is the same thickness as r13...so it has better R value. Its a much denser matterial, but in the same overall dimension. IMO just go with standard unfaced pink stuff and your good to go, no need to spend more on higher priced products unless you are very concerned about being "green" or are wanting the highest fire rating, then you'd want Roxul.
The Ultratouch specs out very well as a sound absorber, its performance is roughly in the same ballpark as rockwool and rigid fiberglass. See Bob Gold's page linked above. It works well in absorbers/resonators.
