Hi All Just signed the lease - so its all go now!! Attached below is the final (wa-hoo!) design for my studio project (after many tweaks along the way) ... I just wanted to double check my understanding on vapour barriers before I start construction of the timber framing next week (hopefully!). Firstly - Its in an old converted farm outbuilding so although there is a dpc in the external brick walls, the concrete floor does not have one. As I am building straight onto the floor (ditched the floating floor idea weeks ago!), bolting the sole plates straight to the slab, I want to make sure I've got adequate moisture protection for the timber and studio floors. My thoughts are around either laying down a membrane and building onto that, or chemically sealing the slab. Any views/experience as to the best option? I did also read on one thread that it wasnt necessary to put down a barrier as the warmer rooms above the slab will be above dew-point and so not cause condensation...? Wasnt sure about that one - but didnt sound right ... :? Secondly - the stud walls. As shown below there are double framed internal walls, but also the external brick wall forms the second leaf on several walls. From what I've read - the vapour barrier should go on the warmest wall -yes? So where my two leaves are 1) external brick and 2) internal timber frame, (i.e. south wall of lounge & project studio and north, south and east wall of tracking room) and I estimate that for the majority of the year (in the UK) the inner leaf will be the warmer leaf (aircon set to 21 degrees), the barrier will go on the inner leaf, stapled to the studs and between mineral wool and plasterboard? Will start posting pics of the build once I get going - building materials on their way very shortly! Also more detail about the build is here. http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=8013 Many thanks for your time guys. Really appreciated. Dave

Re: walls - have just found this document (pdf file) after a further search on the net - thought it might be worth adding to the reference section! Seems to have a pretty comprehensive content! Cheers Dave
