Hey Guys, I've begun building an addition for a live room, which is connected to my double garage which will be converted to my control room.. I have been doing a lot of research, and to tell you the truth, there is too much info, and conflicting opinions so I though I'd see if you guys have any time for some simple anwers... We will be tracking live drums regularly as well as bands.. The guys start framing next week. I am California so the construction is the typical Plywood/Stucco with R13 insulation. A new concrete slab has been poured for the live room. 1) Will it help my soundproofing to get them to install 2 sheets of Ply on the roof instead of one? 2) Instead of building a room within a room etc., I am considering 2 sheets of drywall with 3 tubes of GreenGlue for every sheet on all walls and the ceiling...Is this a good way for me to go? All of the spaces between drywall sheets, and floors will be filled with compound. I'd appreciate any ideas as quick as possible as I'd rather get it right now then hve problems later... Thanks, Andrew
Yes, two sheets of plywood on the roof is better than one in terms of isolation, provided the trusses will support the weight. Three tubes of green Glue per sheet of drywall? That woulfd only be true if you're using 4' x 12' sheets of drywall. The recommended "dosage" is two tubes per 4' x 8' sheet. I strongly suggest you stop the framing before it starts so that you can learn as much as you can before building. Where you think there are conflicting opinions, ask; it may be that there are different recommendations for different situations... Or it may be that recommendations have changed with our wisdom... Or it may be that someone's wrong. ;-) --Keith
