Hi all,
I'm going to be building some superchunk-style traps for each of the 4 corners in my control room. I'll be using Roxul Flexibatt, which has a density of 2lbs/cft. I was wondering about putting a divider or shelf halfway up the trap to take some of the weight off of the bottom of the "stack", making the trap more uniform. This would also make the trap into 2 smaller sections, instead of just one big one floor to ceiling. Will this affect the performace of the trap? Would I be better off drilling holes into the "divider" in an effort to keep the consistency of the trap top to bottom? I hope my questions are clear enough. Thanks,
C

The "weight" is exactly what I've been worried about too.
Having spaced the bulk into two parts is just like stacking 2 corner traps on top of each other. I don't think it'll do much damage. There's also an option to reinforce the trap with wires for example.
But maybe there's better options and ideas.....
Wouldn't stacking from floor to ceiling just give you more than standard density as you approach the floor? This seems desirable to me. I wonder if the non-linear density of a tall superchunk would even make a difference. I'm betting it at least makes a small positive difference.
Great clear question! Yes drilling holes in the divider will help in the sound absorption. Actually in the low frequency absorption for non-normal waves, for the techy geeks. Enjoy!
