Hi there. I'm currently in the initial planning stages for a rehearsal room facility I plan on starting this year and have been looking into insulation materials for the wall framing. I've previously used medium-density mineral wool slabs measuring 1200x600 which I think is more or less the same stuff used by most people posting photo's on this forum. However I've also come across this particular material and wanted to see if there were any specific reasons why it wouldn't be a good choice: http://www.knaufinsulation.co.uk/output ... e_290.html My main reason for wanting to use the Knauf material is because I work for a large DIY goods superstore chain and can get a 20% staff discount. Which would obviously make a big difference to the budget! :D Apologies if this has been covered in a sticky topic. But so much of the material on this forum is very USA-centric it's difficult to filter out information specific to material it's possible fo me to obtain.
Didn't see any specs on DENSITY - and I'm not sure what they're using for "water repellent" - even closed cell polyurethane insulation is waterproof, but isn't worth a crap for acoustic absorption or in-wall insulation for sound blocking purposes. If the stuff is available in about 2-3 PCF (32-48 kG/m^3) and IF, IF their "waterproofing" treatment doesn't seal up all the little fibers/interstices in the material, it should be a fair substitute for the things we usually recommend. However, if they also have NON-waterproofed versions I'd play it safe and order that instead... Steve
Thanks for the response. From the looks of the stuff it doesn't appear any differnent to most fluffy fiberglass insulation products. What they've done to reduce water penetration is unknown to me. I've notived that it's rare to see any information specific to acoustic properties on most insulation products I've found. And any products specifically advertised as "acoustic" tend to be probitively expensive and completly beyond our available budget. As it is the insulation is taking up a very large chunk of it just because so much of the stuff is required.
