I don't know if everyone else here knows this, but I just found out that Walmart has closeout fabric at $1.00 / yd. Plus, some of it is really wide, like over 60" inches! However, the salesperson said they won't be selling fabric after this or next month, except for a Walmart 1/2 hour away. So, I guess if you're interested, you'd have to check your local store.
Man, I felt like a kid in a candy shop! There was one bad side-effect, though. Walking around, fondling fabric made me feel a little, well... you know. So I made sure to tell the sales lady that I was using it for soundproofing my very manly recording studio.
QUESTION:
As a rule of thumb, if when I held the fabric up, I could see the lights in the ceiling, would that mean the fabric will be audibly transparent? I wouldn't want it to reflect any highs.
Anyway, I hope this will help someone here save some money.
Fabric for ONE DOLLAR per yard

Not to hijack this thread, but I've wondered about using that black weed blocking fabric that people use in their gardens. I've seen it in 50ft rolls for 3 or 4 bucks. Seems to breathe just fine. Any thoughts?

Aloha,
The use of weed cloth - has been mentioned and used before. And while it works just fine, it's not the most attractive.

There is a way to 'pimp' weed fabric or felt... just dye wash it in a nice colour and add a little starch when you rinse the stuff clean with water afterwards. Then when it's still a bit wet put it on your absorbers or wherever you want to use it on, and let it dry completely. You will get a nice tight fit and it looks way cool.
