new to the forum ;)
i'm trying to find a new living space...one that comes with a studio space.
yes, i've dropped the big $ (100k+) for some wonderful gear...
i've found a home with a converted garage (insulated ceiling with skylights)...it's cinder brick on two sides..plywood on two sides.
i don't intend to stay in a rental more than a year (waiting for the real estate mkt to soften?)....i also need to LEARN how to use my PT HD/analogue console/outboard gear.....
i DO want to do some tracking but this is a PROJECT studio..I'm trying to learn to use synths and do ITB composing of music etc.....
question: i like the large space of a 2 car garage but.... the room is very live....i'm willing to spend say $5K on modular treatments that I could take with me (is this smart?) ...
i would need rugs on the concrete floors...i'd need to deal with heating the space for winter (though I'm in NoCal which isn't toooo bad).....
but...is it just ridiculous to try and make a rental room usable enough to do some basic tracking/mixing/creating?
i could bide my time and wait and buy.....or rent a treated room somewhere....
thx!

Aloha and welcome to the forum! :D
Congrats on your studio build! I know that you've mentioned your location in your text, however, any chance you could please:
You'll probably get more of a response by doing so and this will really come in handy two or three posts down the road. It's also part of the forum guidelines: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7572 http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3231 Thanks! Here's a link to some non-invasive acoustic treatments you could try. http://www.johnlsayers.com/HR/index1.htm Hope this helps, Aloha 8)Edit your profile to include your location. This is very important, because this is a worldwide resource, and as such, material costs and availability vary widely. For example, masonry is cheaper than gypsum in some parts of the globe, whereas it's the exact opposite in other regions.
Sure....thanks!
