Aloha and welcome to the forum! :D
Congrats on your studio build! Any chance you could please:
You'll probably get more of a response by doing so and this will really come in handy two or three posts down the road. It's also part of the forum guidelines: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7572 http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3231 Thanks! Looking forward to your build! Aloha 8)Edit your profile to include your location. This is very important, because this is a worldwide resource, and as such, material costs and availability vary widely. For example, masonry is cheaper than gypsum in some parts of the globe, whereas it's the exact opposite in other regions.
Aloha,
Thanks for editing your profile.
First of all, let me point out that I do not have a set of Truth monitors. That said, I do however, have a set of Mackie 824's which are also active, and so generate heat. There are several of us here on the forum that have soffited our Mackie's (even though the company does not suggest it) and have loved the results. Here's an excerpt from- http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewt ... sc&start=0wandering weather i should have the TRUTH soft mounted. i am new at this, they are active so they generate some heat.
Be sure to design enough air circulation for cooling. Perhaps a search on RSD for "soffits" may also prove fruitful. Hope this helps, Aloha 8)Wow! Even without the rockwool to absorb the extraneous bass, the difference they make is immediately apparent. The soundstage is more focused, and the room sounds louder with less effort/volume. and: Listening Test: First Impressions - bottom end is tighter - imaging is clearer - drums sound clearer, more defined in mixes - able to hear clearer at lower volumes than before - room sounds quieter without music playing, louder & tighter with less effort when music played - less fatigue/more enjoyment in listening to mixes! I am really pleased Very Happy with the improvements from just a month ago, and am looking forward to continued improvements as the rest of the treatments go in. HI there,
Apologies for late reply.
IMHO these Truth monitors are absolutely fantastic.
They are fine for soffit mount (set compensation on rear to -2db)
See John's drawings for soffit mount - allow for air flow via convection.
Some tips - the Truth boxes are shielded but ensure you use trs/xlr plugs/cables - always. NOT guitar cables.
Buy the Behringer Studio Sub as well and use it for crossover. Set if flat gain and comp at -2. Make sure you leave space under front of desk! It is big.
Have the electrician install power points (star grounded) to switch all speakers on from one switch at the desk. (make sure speakers switch on last and off first! - commonsense signal chain stuff)
When running speaker cables and power - keep them at least 500mm apart where you can.
The results in my studio are EPIC. :D
For the price and my ears they are perfect - even better soffit mounted.
It is an amazing difference from near field use.
Hope this helps.
