I've searched for a couple of hours for a similar situation prior to posting but couldn't find anything. Also, I'm on dial-up so downloading sketchup would take forever. I want to build a one and a half story 28 x 28 detached garage / studio from scratch. Cost is a big factor so my friends and I will complete all of the labor. Downstaris: I need parking for 1 full size truck (probably 14x24 would work with vehicle entrance on the east side), a control room with double sliding glass doors to a live room for drums and acoustic instruments, and a small bathroom with a stand-up shower. 10 foot ceilings on the bottom floor. Studio entrance would be on the west side. Upstairs: 4 iso booths to record vocals and guitar amps. Stairs to this location would be from the control room. I'll pour a concrete slab to build on. Vinyl siding exterior, 2x6 walls, shingle roof. A sketch with placement ideas would be awesome. This is my first post, so please be gentle if I've screwed it up. Many thanks. Aloha and welcome to the forum , Nick :D Congrats on your studio build. They say "a picture is worth a thousand words." Any chance you could post a hand drawn diagram with your ideas, placement and measurements of doors, windows, etc? This would really help interpreting your descriptions more accurately into a SU drawing. Thanks! Looking forward to your build. Aloha 8)
Thanks so much for the warm welcome. I'm amazed at the amount of knowledge that is on this forum. I've got a lot to learn for sure! I had my wife help me sketch up a rough draft. I'm not sure this is the best way to arrange the floorplan. I increased the exterior size a coulple of feet to allow for a handicap accessible bathroom. The second floor would be dedicated to 4 evenly spaced ISO booths, probably with a hallway against an exterior wall to enter them. Thanks very much for any input. Nick

do you have elevations of the plan? i think that would help... for instance, is it possible to put the stairs against the back wall going up from the east side (assuming north is the top of your drawing) to up over the bathroom? this way you can create a more symetrical control room and also put storage and/or trapping under stairs. putting the CR in the back also means less moving of drums past the mix position...

That just might work. Here's an elevation that I found online that roughly resembles what the building will look like. The dimensions aren't correct, but the idea is there. Does this help get a visual? (ignore my rudimentary photoshop skills  )

it will be pretty tight upstairs... it would probably work better if you could use all of the downstairs and park the truck upstairs

Thanks for the info. I may drop the upstairs idea and make a single ISO booth downstairs. We'll see what happens. Nick
