hi everyone, i'm happy to have stumbled across this forum yesterday. i've already spent several hours digesting the valuable information as i've combed through many different threads. some great stuff here :) anyway, i'll try to follow the guidelines set out in the 'don't-post-unless-you've-read-this' sticky. i'm going to build a detatched garage in the backyard adjacent to the rear lane. the idea (for now) is to build an oversized 2-car garage that would be used to park 1 car and to house a studio/rehearsal space. sizewise, i'm thinking 22 x 26 w/10ft ceilings, although i'm not oposed to going slightly bigger. several questions have popped up in my mind as i'm planning. the studio/rehearsal space will likely not get built right away. so really, i'm considering all the options/alternatives i have now in methods of construction, etc. that would help me later when it does come time to build the studio. initially i thought about a conventional 2x4 construction garage. then a friend of mine was talking about insulated concrete form construction, which got me think what the benefits of doing that would be... has anyone worked with ICFs before? insulation (both acoustic and temperature) are concerns since i live in a northern climate and i don't want to annoy the neighbors. i imagine at times a full band with drums/bass/guitar/keys would jam in the space, and i would like to use the space for tracking as well. size for the studio space would be approximately 12 x 20 give or take. all this to say: i want to make sure that the design/construction of this garage happens in a way that will be most conducive to a future studio/rehearsal space. is there an advantage (from a studio perspective) building using IFCs over conventional wood frame construction? are there other things i may have overlooked when considering building a new garage? any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. i hope i haven't left out any details (i don't have too many right now)... cheers!
