Hey for those of you who remember after we had my studio designed and almost ready to start building me and my family had to move to a new place do to an increasing wave of robery in our neighborhood. So after all these months we found a new and better place to live with more room for my studio! yoohoooo!!!, so here it is. This is a design I made based on what I learned, hopefully you guys can point out my mistakes!!! :D The room has to be built from scratch, well not really, it`ll be on top of the garage, the space is 6m long by 3.5m deep, and could be up to 2.5 or 3m tall. Two limitations are the places for the doors, one has to have access to the house from an existing window, that´ll be the door, and the other one has to have acces to outside the house. With the window to be door one I have the problem that in my actual design I don´t have enough room to place a fixed basstrap, so I placed a temporary cilinder to simulate a movable trap....maybe a hand on that? :D THanks guys!!

looks excellent! who gets to carry the drums up the spiral stairs? :D
What's the garage ceiling's PSF? and what is your build total PSF weight?
hehe, thanks Glenn!, I gues I`ll be using the indoor entrance for drums!. rdolmat: sorry but what is PSF?, well the garage is already structured to hold a second floor, the engineer that built the house told us so :D
Aloha and welcome back, valgaer Glad to hear that you're settling into your new place and that your studio is back on. (website looks & sounds great) psf = pounds per square foot Aloha 8)

I'm nervous about that too. I guess the engineer didn't assume you'd be building two second floors (in essence) rooms-within-rooms... I'm still a little nervous with doing my build until I see some real numbers from someone here regarding second floor studios... :(
Thanks Kendale!! glad you liked our site and our music!, if you guys could see the room I mixed in!, what a nightmare!, hope to be able to make a nice looking and sounding studio like yours! rdolmat, thanks for the concern buddy!, well we I`ve already shown the design, at least this version, to the engineer and he said there most be no problem with it, considering we have to build extra reinforced here in CR because if the earthquakes, so he said it will hold it nicely :D, thanks again! Any problems with the acustics or any better idea than mine? thanks!!!, btw have a very happy new year!, and may your mixes sound awesome this 2007! Juan Pablo
Come on guys! it has to have some flaw somewhere!! :D, or can I stamp the seal of aproval on it? Juan Pablo
only a certified architect and the building officer can give the stamp of approval... :? building a second floor structure in an earthquake zone... permits... etc... otherwise the design looks good... get Rod's book on construction techniques so you are getting the best value on your construction work. also it probably gets warm so A/C and fresh air will be a plus (even drummers like air... ;-) so putting in proper air exchange and cooling will be important. maybe a split unit for each room and some air venting. also, on the angled door i'd hang some 703 (like) absorber to cut reflections. on the other entry door - you could do the same. as far as additional bass trapping, put 703 up in the wall-ceiling corners and leverage all the space behind your angled walls. also on the second entry (the flat door not the angled one) you could put in a "slot resonator door" that could add some balance to the room, have it hinged to open into the room (and the regular door out).

Thanks Glenn!!, Yeah by the stamp of approval I mean from the forum, design wise, the engineer will take care of the permits and building regulations of course :D Those are great ideas!, yeah I think a resonator on the flat door would be awesome!
Hello: I am intersted in a design of this type. I have a room of 6,10m x 3,40m x 2,40m very similar with your room. You have constructed similar designs? So that applications advise this room? Limitations? Thanks.

Juan - I'd add more absorption to the rear wall - you must stop those rear reflections. cheers john
Thanks John!, absortion for high frequencies or the whole thing?
the whole thing - if space is a problem you could lean the added rear wall forward so it's 6" out at the bottom of the wall and 1 ft out at the top. cheers john
