Hi, my name is James Smith. I live just outside Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the country.
I'm a vocalist, learning to record. I currently have a DAW set up in a 6'Wx18L storage room, with 9' ceiling. This room is situated on the other side of my double carport. Brick exterior, sheet-rock inside, no insulation...sounds terrible!!!
My plan is to go 30' out from the 18' side of the existing storage room, so roughly a new 30'x18'x9' space. The 30' is negotiable if it helps fit into the "Golden Rule" equations!
Here are my requirements:
1. Leave existing room for storage, and maybe use as a Mechanical Room.
2. In the 30'x18' area I need a control room, vocal booth, bathroom, and maybe live room.
3. I will be recording drums, vocals, bass, guitars, keyboards.
4. I want sound isolation inside and out. I live near a major highway, so truck noise is a problem. I also want to keep sound in, so as not advertise I have expensive equipment inside!!! Neighbors are not an issue.
5. I want at least one window to look out of, preferrably from the "Listening" position in the control room.
6. I will be tieing into my existing "hip" roof, so I don't see that as a problem.
7. Concrete foundation
8. Budget...Well, I will be doing the work myself, with help from knowledgeable friends, so I'm looking at mostly material costs. I'm guessing $5-10K??
9. This room will need it's own HVAC unit.
I plan to beging this project in February or March.
I'm looking for "economical" floor plan suggestions, so I can figure out a price tag!!!
Please let me know if there is more information I forgot to include!
Thanks,
James
