Hi all guys, it's been a while since the last time I dropped here. In the meantime I managed to upgrade my tracking room with some clouds and the result is very pleasing to hears. I submitted the folloing design to John. Hope I'll have a reply soon 'cause I'd like to put it all up during X-mas holidays. If you have any suggestion please shout'em out. Cheers. 8) PS: I attached the SKP file in case someone want to play around with it... PPS: the monitors are JBL LSR28p

Judah - download the small studio skp file here http://johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5457 and check out the proper construction of a front wall. cheers john
Hi John, thanks for your reply. Sorry but I don't understand. The SKP file you pointed me at is a complete new wall, framed and everything. That is not possible in my current studio. I thought that putting corner traps and flush mounting the speakers like I did was the way to go. Am I way off path here? BTW, the corners traps I showed are obviously non finished, I left them empty to show exactly how their are built. I was thinking of putting insulation on all surfaces inside the trap, plus some hangers, a front bezel for the monitors and cloth on the bottom. Sorry John for me being such a pest.
Hi John, to make it all clearer, I was thinkin' of doin' something like Kendale did. (Sorry Kendale for hijacking your picture.....). 8)

Aloha Judah, No worries!. I find it curious that several people have taken interest in the approach I used. Your drawing is very close to what I ended up doing, not to mention the absorption/baffle on the lower half of each soffit, and the bass hangers in the lower half of the middle section.

What John has presented is based on proven design principles that produce consistant and predictable results, based on his years and experience designing and building studios. This would be our best case scenario, and something we as "home studio" owners should aspire to, when, if, and as much as possible for best results. Any compromises we choose to take along the way, will ultimately compromise what could have been possible. Like you, I was not able to permanently frame in the wall unit. However, if I had John's drawing available at the time, I would have incorporated it into the design, especially the areas supporting and surrounding the speakers. I have found that my current speaker stands flex a bit more than I would like, and I could use more width on the speaker baffle area. One option to consider might be to have your wood shop build the front wall units in sections - framed and skinned - and then assemble the pieces together in your room, bearing in mind that this is again, a compromise of John's original plan, and they'll be heavy to boot! Perhaps next time for me, but it's still possible for you. Hope this helps, Aloha 8)
