Hello all Long time forum Reader ,First time Poster....lol I have Learned much from everyone on this Forum.. But I dont think Ive came across this yet.. Im concidering putting a Knock Down Finish on My control room walls.. Will this effect the reflection off the walls more than normal or should I stick wih smooth walls... Thanks in advance for you replys.. Jerry
I think he means exposing some of the bricks in the wall...
Broxx, I cant imagine it would change any reflections in the room. If anything you are adding density to your walls. Not a lot, but some I know some of the guys have just textured with out a knock down. And any good sheet rock guy knows its hard to do a smooth finish without seeing the joints. I personally like the knock down / broquet (sp) finish. It also hides all your sins of tape and mudding Tom
Thanks for the replys .. I didnt think that it would make much difference.. And a Knock down finish is where you spray thinned out drywall mud with a popcorn hopper on all the walls which adds texture spolts if you will... and then with a large drywall knife you drag the spolts until you flaten them out to leave a decrotive texture on the walls... and as Tom pointed out I would be adding density to the room... Which is a good thing
once the knock down is done Ill post a pic for those who dont know what it looks like.... 8)
I couldn't wait. I went and googled it.

Thats very similar.. that appears to be an exterior finish.. Interior wont be so smeared.. it will have more definition... like so....

It looks fairly easy to do. Does it save you from having to get the drywall joints perfect?

Nope .. Joints still need to be finished...
Aloha Jerry, Now that I've seen what you were referring to, in regard to your question:
I'm concidering putting a Knock Down Finish on My control room walls. Will this effect the reflection off the walls more than normal or should I stick wih smooth walls.
The short answer is: yes, they will affect reflections off the walls. As far as how much & in what way, well, there are many factors involved and more information needed in order to begin to offer suggestions that would be useful to your build. Could you provide a bit more info please? (Forum guidelines) http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3231 - Size & shape of your room - Ceiling height - Any doors, windows, posts & their location? - Drawing of your floor plan layout w/dimensions - Pics of your room - Are your walls angled? - Do you have any absorption planned/in place? - Construction used in walls - Any other perceived boundaries or limitations? I know this may sound like a lot, but the more info you can provide, the better anyone/everyone can offer suggestions that would be useful for your situation. Aloha 8)

Knock-down finish - very slight increase in diffusion at VERY high frequencies, not sure anyone but your dog could hear the diff :? consider that typical knock-down is maybe 1/16" to 3/32" deep, affected frequency would be over 30 kHz if my math-fuzzy brain's still fuzzing along... Steve
Thanks Steve.. That might make the neighborhood dogs start to howl
