also i cant draw but heres my "IDEA" ahahhaha
it may help to add details per the READ THIS FIRST post such as what you are trying to achieve, detailed sketch with dimensions, budget etc...
I'm confused. Your question was sounding like it was about gear.
IMO, the best place for you to start is come up with a budget of what your willing to put into the whole thing. Then head to recording.org for gear questions, and here for studio questions.
Aloha and welcome to the forum, PAGuy
Any chance you have some dimensions (L x W x H) of the spaces you'll be working with, and any idea of how loud (dB's) some of your artists are?

That's why people build studios - for people like you. As you don't know how to do it, or what gear etc wouldn't you just be better off continuing as you have done? getting to know how to build, setup and run a studio is as big a task as operating a successful label don't you think?? cheers johnFor years we have used other peoples studios to record our projects. if I was going to get a studio built for rap/r&b what would I need? I mean I know how to use pro tools (plus my buddie is an engineer at a studio in the city) Im lost on what console to get, what plugins, what mics, what machines to get. Alls I know is I have the chance to help 1000 other artists in this city get there music out! Now i dont want to do mastering I just want enough equipment to record and it sound good!
Hi PAGuy,
What a fantastic opportunity! :P I am green with envy!
John's advice is very good. As someone with a lot of experience recording music but fairly new to pro gear and COMPLETELY new to studio design, I would say that rushing into this is sure to lead to headaches. Especially if you've got cameras in your face the whole time!
I think if I were in your position, I'd start by listing out all the GEAR and STUDIO LAYOUT things I liked about the professional studios I've done projects in...
And I would DEFINITELY include paying for some consulting help in the budget.
Thank you Evan. Much better response :D
Yes, make sure you get good advice on this, someone you respect in this field.
Setting up a recording facility is more than just the studio. It's having a team like the studios you've worked in till now.
cheers
john
if you have the budget, you can have people design and build one for you, even equip it and do the engineering. Someone I used to work with a number of years ago recently finished "his" studio but he had it designed, built, and then hired a manager and an engineer to manage it and work the technical aspects. this enabled him to do what he loves (playing music - plus renting it out to others to pay for it...) and he didn't get burdened with the details - as John pointed out - he let the pros handle the parts he knew he couldn't. but it does cost more than doing it yourself...
