Here is my plan for a yet-to-be-built project studio and office in my basement. Available space is minimal, so things are far from optimum. I don't have the space to float a room within a room. That said, I am interested in getting the best sound and isolation that the situation will afford. Several notes: * Blue walls are proposed; drawn as 4", but I could go to 6". * Gray walls are 8" concrete block with stucco finish. * Flooring will be DRIcore with carpet squares. * Ceiling is poorly done stucco on wood lath. * Floor-to-ceiling is 88". * Beam (dash and solid lines) is 8" wide; finished height under beam is 81". * Little closet is just that, a closet; not an iso-booth. * Door leads to a yet-to-be-finished family/home theater room (that's a sectional sofa). * Window is 2' x 3' and 63" off the floor; it looks into a crawl-space. * Nearfields will be placed on rack wings. Questions: * Can I afford to drop the ceiling a little to recess lights? * If I bought an Auralex kit, where should the tiles and bass traps go? * Will it work? * How can I make it better within these confines? Thank you very much for your help. You're doing God's work, here. - Andy

Or would it be better with the stations flipped, as attached? Ergonomically, I like the previous one better, because it gets the keyboard stand out from in front of rackspace, but this might be better acoustically. I don't know... Thanks for any input!

I think #2 is potentially better but you're gonna need a decent amount of treatment regardless... you could possibly slide the keyboard down a foot or so to open of the space to the rack and just square up the keyboard up with the wall.

Hey, I like that! Not as much square footage as in mine, but it more or less solves the problems that mine created. And you've got my RP8's in there - how'd you know? I've got to learn Sketch Up... Thanks!

psychic.... :) yea a little less space but should be better acoustically. you'll still need a lot of treaments like bass absorbers and reflection point absorbers. you'll still have enough space to hang things on the wall as well.
