This is the deal...
I built a small control room under my house in Greenwich, NSW Australia about a year ago. I use it for composing, tracking and mixing music for TV.
My problem has been rampant bass around 180-200hz has made it very difficult to mix in there, let alone record upright bass or acoustic guitars. The room is very small and proximity appears to be my biggest problem. :( I simply can't get far enough away from anything!
The upright bass sends the whole room off, so I can't use it at all. The acoustic gats have a pronounced bonk that I have resorted to eq-ing out as I track. I have never needed to use eq in the tracking process before and am not a big fan of the method. A bit of compression is all I usually use.
I have another studio in Crows Nest with a ProTools HD-2 system for audio post work in TV. I could just mix the tracks there and solve that problem, but I have decided to rebuild the interior of the music suite using designs and info gleaned from Mr Sayers and the crew.
The two pictures show the empty shell with dimensions and the other is my concept of acoustic treatment for this space from the ideas and designs posted at this forum.
The corners will have the slats and the front and back walls are broadband style. All the units will be sealed and independant of the existing walls.
Not pictured are the side panels which are also to JS's spec.
A huge thankyou to everyone here whose information, diagrams, pics and advice have given me the courage to don the tool belt once again and tame this beast.
Please chime in with any ideas or advice that you think may help.
Cheers,
Andy

Sure John.
Thanks for your interest and quick response. :D
I know nothing about measuring modes etc  , but I know that there's some weird shite going on in there. I am worried that a big part of my problem might be the geometry of the room itself and that I may be fighting a losing battle.
What I didn't mention was that I intend to float a cloud of some description as well to finish the thing off.
Also, I have had the corners trapped off superchunk style the whole time with foam absorbers etc. I haven't used it as the empty shell.
I just realised that I need to post construction details regarding the external walls etc.
The floor was escavated to gain an extra metre of headroom. The house is on a sloping block, so you can see that half of the room has slab cement retaining walls about a metre high connected to the slab floor. The timber stud frame has two layers of 10mm gyprock with a foil lined 3mm rubber matting inbetween. So does the ceiling.
The steel reinforcement in the slabs and all the foil in the walls and ceiling are earth strapped together. They are connected to their own tech earth stake creating a Faraday Cage. This works extremely well as I live directly opposite the ABC tower and the RFI etc is rampant here. I have zero interference/hum etc, etc. Thank god!
Here are some other pics taken during construction to illustrate the density of the structure for any modal calculations etc.
