I've searched around but can't find anything similar to what I'm doing so.... It's been about 2 years since I finished the control room and thanks to all of you, especially knightfly, the room does sound great. The actual studio tracking room which is a seperate addition to the original home that contains the control room, however, has been sitting unfinished since then for too many reasons to mention, but now I am ready to finish it.
This room is in the basement of the addition, adjacent to the control room and is underground for the exception of about the top 2' of one wall. All surrounding walls are 10" block. The 2x4 stud walls sit on top of a floor which is made of 2x4 treated sleepers Tap Con'd down to the concrete with 1-1/2" Blue rigid foam tightly inserted between and all covered with 3/4" OSB. At the time, I had installed R-13 paper faced insulation so that it wouldn't sag over time. Again, there is a 1-1/2" air space between the stud wall with insulation (for breathability) and the block. I'm not sure if the paper facing of the insulation will interfere with any air cavity since there is no outside layer on the stud wall other than the air gap and blocks to make an actual air pocket. We did install RC-1 28" apart horizontally on the walls and will be putting 5/8" drywall on this. Will this, along with the majority of the building underground, provide enough isolation from neighbors living about 50' from the end wall?
To isolate the room from the bedroom on the 1st floor above, we are planning on using furring strips on the bottom of the 1st floor joists with Celotex brown board made to fit between the joists, resting on the lip of the furring strips with 3" Roxul on top of the brown board. Attached perpendicular to the furring strips will be RC-1 and one layer of 5/8" drywall. This should give an air space between the drywall and brown board of about 1-1/4". Am I on the right track? Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Here are two pic's of the 13 x 20 room I am using....
