Hi i've started building a new recording studio in manchester england .uk
i have also done a 3D model using sketch up .
if anyone can look at this and give me some advice it would be most
welcome .
1 the room/space is a stud wall partiioned area within a bigger room in
an old 19 century mill on the 2nd floor apart from 1 wall it is a room within a room, the only other people are below which is a bed sales room
the room was used by a dance school and a rock band rehersal space
before me, so they don't mind noise . however i would like to reduce it as much as possible.
2 i will be building a stud wall construction using rockwool and plaster board.
i will be partioning the room to make the control room and live room area's and also building 2 iso rooms for drums and vocals.
3 the stud work on the drum iso room will consist of a raised platform
filled with rockwool and a chipboard floor then cover with fiberboard
then lamanet flooring.
the walls will be 2 seperate stud walls with an air cap of 3" between them
i will be using 2 layer of plaster board on the outside 1 on each faceing board and 2 on the inside wall a total 6 layers all filled with rockwool and sealed with mastic sealant .
4 the vocal booth will be the same but a single stud only
5 the other partion walls will be floor to ceiling 2 layers of plaster board on the outside ans 2 layers on the inside plus an extra layer of fiber board to make the wall different thickness on one side.
6 the control room will be a simular construction with a false ceiling
starting 9ft and then a slope at the end down to 7 ft .
7 i have about £2000 to spend total i already have half the timber and
rockwool from my other studio so a head start cost wise.
please look at the sketch up file and tell me what you think,
please let me know if the room modes/ shapes are correct ?
thanks inadvance for your replys
phil blueroomstudio u.k.
p.s. this is for john sayers or anyone who can help
i have the full 3d model file skp but it is 980 kb and to big for the
fourm so i can e-mail it direct to you if that's ok .
thanks

Greeny - you have to get your skins correct.
Here is an alternative layout with the correct skins. Each room has it's own skin.

thanks john for your speey reply, are you saying ny room layout would not work at all, as we already have the drum iso room platfrom floor built.
thanks also for you sketch up pic look great but do i have to double skin
between the chiil out room or the outer frame of the room stud wall considering there is nothing on the other side but an empty room then a brick wall i'm triing to save some cash on wood.
where you have put speakers is the toilet block and kitchen
sorry my fault should have been clearer
also do know where i can find building instructions for a window between
control and live room ?
dose the glass have to be a certian size i.e. 6ft x 3ft pane 1 1/2 inch thick
pane 2 3/4 inch thick ?
how wide should the gap be between 2 windows and should you tilt one out by 5 degrees ?
agian thanks for your help
