Hello,
I've been struggling for 2 days, trying to design a studio in 6m x 3m garage. Whatever I try, I'm 50cm short in width :) As most of the time it's one-man-band, I'm doing single room design. I will do my homework before asking questions related to my specific project. But now I have a question that could be general for smaller control rooms.
How to prevent first reflections from desk and console? I've come up with idea to place racks that would block sound coming to the surfaces that would reflect to listening position. But I'm not sure if this would not create more problems with diffraction for example. Also when flush mounting it's recommended to have big pannels to really have an open area of 2*Pi. And my design migh focus the sound in narrower cone and distort the freq response. I base my layout on "Small studio in 3D" (http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=5457), but suggested rack placement is not fitting in my scenario.
In quite many designs in this forum I see first reflections are coming from console, desk and/or side walls. Is this a minor problem or simply too difficult to treat?
BTW. Racks do not block direct signal (all speaker area is visible from listening position). Find the picture attached.
