Good evening everyone, First of all a big thank you to all you people contributing and making this forum a beautiful source of information and inspiration! Before I can 'bother' anyone with my design ideas, there’s a small hurdle to overcome regarding Sketch-Up (excellent program by the way) In order to prepare thouroghly I’d like to fully exploit the possibillities of Sketch-Up. There’s only one problem: I cannot seem to find the proper way to make pages which have additions on every new page (and then when you go back, the additions are gone...) In order to make myself clearer I would like to refer to a recent submission by mister John Sayers regarding control room windows (a question by Jeff Gossard) In that particular design you have the ‘add frame’, ‘add insul’ pages (etcetera) and when you go back, you only have the bare wall again. If I do that (adding pages and additional drawings in Sketch-Up) I end up with the latest additions being on the first page also. Is there anyone who can help me out on this? Thank you in advance, Best regards, Phybeau
It all about layers. You must place all the components of the model on different layers then you just show different layers on different pages. With the free version of sketchup I notice the "properties to save" items are unchecked on the pages dropdown. Make should you've selected all of them when you start working on pages. cheers john
Another key trick is to group everything that you want to function as a "thing". Studs, widgets, doors, wall assemblies ... anything that you may want to fiddle with later. If you don't do this, SketchUp will fuse together connecting surfaces making resizing of moving parts very difficult. BTW, this differs from making something a component.

YUP!!! I group everything.
also, each view (tour pages) can be set to hide or unhide items and/or color/b+w/transparency. you can add things like sectional cuts and hide them on different views as well as John's suggestion to use layers (which is extremely useful because you can select subsets of objects). Grouping is good for unique objects but if you're going to use one or more on a given drawing (as well as building up your library) make it a component. this way you can globally change an object and its going to change them all. any components you want to leave alone, make it "unique" or explode then immediately use "group".
Thank you all for your tips and tricks! Trying out some of these I even found some more useful features. But back to my initial question, I still cannot seem to get it right! I must be doing something wrong, and maybe it’s also due to the fact that I do not understand your instructions correctly (English being not my native language) (or could it be the free Sketchup version does not have this particular feature?) In order to find out where I’m going wrong I’ve written down what I’m doing step by step: (please bear with me) - FILE – NEW ***Draw*** then got to: -WINDOW – PAGES – properties to save (select all) – click on UPDATE (twice) - click on ADD (another page appears) Then go to: -WINDOW -LAYERS -Click on ADD -Select the second layer (making sure the second page is also up front) ***Draw an addition*** got to: -WINDOW -PAGES -Click on UPDATE (all properties selected) Then go back to the first page and the additions made in the second page and second layer are also there... What am I doing wrong and where? Thank you for your patience! Best regards, Phybeau
you have to hide the object or the layer on the FIRST page then update it. then when you transition from page 1 to page 2 the new addition will appear. or going back to page 1 it will hide. the tour pages are simply views of the objects. adding objects will looking at a particular view will not make them hidden in another view (unless working with layers that are already hidden in another view- you would add the objects to the layer with Entity Info - right-click on object)

IT WORKS :D I've got it now,....finaly... Thank you, thank you, thank you! Best regards, Phybeau
