This must be covered somewhere but I was unable to turn it up in a search. I'm trying to determine how many WIC braces are needed but can't quite puzzle out coverage requirements. I think the diagram at the Kinetics site is telling specing 32" oc horizontal and 48" oc vertical. For my room this would be just shy of 40 clips. Clips are about $9 ea which is not going to break the bank; however, if I don't need that many, so much the better. Mason site indicate 48" oc both directions (bottom of this page). Figure 10.14 in Rod's book indicates "cliap at 8' 0" - min 2 per wall. The wall in the diagram is just a bit over 11' long. Is the 8' included in the diagram 8' oc horizontal and only needed along the top of the wall (looks to be about 6" below the header)? Thanks again! keyword list for future search victims: Mason Industries WIC DS-402Bw Kinetics KWSB2 location spacing

OK - In the book - my calcs are as follows: First - the wall is indicated as pinned to the concrete floor - so a single top brace on 8' centers will actually pick up 4' of an 8' wall if mounted at the top of wall. I do show a mount of 6" below top of wall. 8 x 4 = 32 sf of wall per brace. 2x4 framing for an 8' wall (double top brace) is 33# PCF for Doug Fir - and the wall section contains 2 cf per 8x4 top wall section. Thus 66# of framing load. Drywall - 32sf x 2 layers of 5/8" (at their 2.7# per sf per layer) = 172.8# of drywall - For a total load of 238.8 pounds per clip - max allowable is 250 - loading is OK Center frequency is 15Hz x 238.8/250 = 14.328 Hz. I'll live with that. Rod Total max load is
When I was talking with Mason they were suggesting using them about 4ft up the wall as well as at the top of the wall - kind of in a grid pattern. Would he need to adhere to that also? Just wundrin... Thanks Rod... :D

Andy, Well that all depends on what it is you construct. Take my example - it works- so why bother throwing money away? On the other hand - if you use 3 sheets of drywall - or step the wall height up to 9' - then it over loads the clips - so you would have to change the installation. In that case though - I would opt for the same top of wall - but layout at 4' enters. The only way I would start installing at the center line of wall horizontally would be if I was constructing some very VERY tall walls - and then would use the clips to aide in lateral bracing to stop the wall from wanting to hinge in the center under bending stresses. I hope that helped. Rod
Gothca - thanks for the clarification. Andy
Excellent! Just to make sure I have the right translation for my 7'6" tall wall that will be sporting 2 x 5/8 GB + Green Glue ... If the wall is pinned to the floor, a single horizontal row of clips 6" from top, on 8' centers, a minimum of 2 clips per wall should close the deal? Thanks much.

Lee, Sure nuff should.......... Rod
Don't ask me why ... seemed like a good idea at the time. Submitted for your use, approval or ridicule.

Rod, could you eyeball the pictures below? The cement stub wall prevents me from getting the inside wall framing close enough to span the gap with just a sway brace. I think the idea presented in Figure 10.13 of your book might be the trick? Thanks!!!
